Re: Application for Commercial Agriculture Permit – 375 Rye Street
Dear Members of the Planning & Zoning Commission,
I am writing to formally request approval for a Commercial Agriculture Permit for my
property located at 375 Rye Street in South Windsor, Connecticut.
The primary use of the property is an equine-based agricultural operation. My business
consists of horse boarding, riding lessons, and guided trail rides. These activities are
conducted in a controlled and safe environment and are consistent with traditional
agricultural and equestrian uses within the Town of South Windsor.
In addition to the equine operation, I maintain a small collection of livestock that
contributes to the overall agricultural character of the farm. These animals include
approximately 15 goats, 2 donkeys, 2 alpacas, 1 cow, 15 chickens, 2 turkeys, and 2
peacocks. All animals are properly housed and managed in accordance with accepted
agricultural practices.
As part of the continued development and improvement of the farm, I am proposing to
construct an indoor riding arena on the property. This structure will allow for year-round
equestrian activities, improve safety for riders and horses, and enhance the overall
functionality of the agricultural operation. The proposed arena will be designed and located
in a manner that is consistent with local zoning regulations and mindful of surrounding
properties and environmental considerations.
The property is operated with careful attention to land stewardship, including proper
manure management, pasture maintenance, and maintaining appropriate setbacks from
wetlands and neighboring properties. All e?orts are made to ensure that agricultural
activities are conducted responsibly and with minimal impact on the surrounding area.
This farm supports the local agricultural economy and provides valuable recreational and
educational opportunities to the community.
I respectfully request approval of this Commercial Agriculture Permit. Please feel free to
contact me if any additional information, documentation, or site plans are required as part
of the review process.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Heggenhougen
