This modification request which seeks relief from the requirements of Part IV,Section31.2.2.1.3 of the 2005 Connecticut State Fire Safety Code‘as amended August 01,2009 and October O2,2012;to permit a mix of existing non—fire resistance rated,1—3/8inchhoiiowcorewooddoorsand/or 1-3/8 inch raised wood panel doors with a softwoodframes,to serve as opening protectives in this existing Exit Enclosure,from each of theeffectedDwelling(Apartment Sty/e)Units in this Existing Apartment Building isUNACCEPTABLE.This decision is based on use of an automatic fire alarm system asanalternativesafeguard,when conforming to the requirements -of NFPA—72 for“Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems"along with automatic fire detection locatedinsidetheDwellingUnitattheentrydoortotheExitEnclosureandintheunoccupiedBasement,with occupant notification through out the building is not commensurate withtheintentofthecoderequirementsforequivalentfireprotectionofanexitenclosuredoor.Additionally no practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship has been presentedandtherequirementsisnotadjudgedunwarranted.
