These samples were collected from painted surfaces that were observed to 'bero; _" deteriorated. Test results from the paint samples indicate that: 1: ❑ Lead -based paint was not identified in any of the paint samples that were collected. There is no action required from you. 2: ® Some of the paint sample(s) that were collected contain levels of lead below the level (0.5% by dry weight) deemed to be lead -based paint. Although these surfaces do not contain a regulatory level of lead -based paint, lead dust or lead -contaminated soil hazards could be created if the paint is turned into dust by abrasion, scraping, or sanding. Caution should be taken when disturbing these surfaces. There is no action required from you regarding these surfaces. 3: ❑ Lead -based paint was identified in paint samples that were collected. Whenever testing identifies deteriorated lead -based paint in an existing or proposed family day care home that has not been previously inspected, the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood will require that a comprehensive lead inspection shall be conducted by a trained code enforcement official or a DPH-certified lead inspector or lead inspector risk assessor. Children under the age of six do not reside in your home and the residence is owner -occupied. Therefore, the lead -based paint hazards must be corrected and made inaccessible in accordance with the Regulations for Family Child Care Homes (Section 19a-87b-9): "Poisonous substances shall not be accessible to children enrolled in the facility." You are required to take immediate steps to correct this problem because you (intend to) operate a Family Day Care Home. Performing this work improperly may create a greater lead hazard. It is recommended that you contact your local health department or the Lead Environmental Management Unit of this department [(860) 509-7299] who can help you decide what work methods are most appropriate for your property and situation. Before work is initiated a copy of the lead hazard remediation plan' must be submitted to the Child Day Care Licensing Specialist for OEC review and approval. The plan must -be in accordance with the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control regulations Sections 19a-lllc-1. through 19a-lllc-11). You are also responsible for notifying the parents of enrolled children that lead -based paint hazards have been identified at the facility and the conditions are being corrected.
