allow a second building sign 110 sq. ft. (one building sign allowed); and 2) a free
standing sign 50 sq. ft. (24 sq. ft. allowed) at 260 Chapel Road,I zone.
Mr. Tom Greeno, Manager of GCR Truck Tire Center came before the Board to represent this
application. He explained that the company is currently located in East Hartford but plans to
relocated to South Windsor by approximately October 12, 1999. Mr. Greeno told the Board that
they are looking for one additional building sign and a larger freestanding sign by the road. The
roadside sign is necessary to enable potential customers, which are mostly tractor-trailer trucks,
from missing the drive to the building. The larger sign would also provide a safer situation
because the tractor trailers would not have to turn around.
The building signs are necessary because the building is 250' off of Chapel Road. These signs
would also enable potential customers to locate the building from areas on Rte. 5 and Chapel
Road.
Ms. Becky Morrissey, Office Manager for GCR Truck Tire Center came before the Board and
showed various pictures that show the building from different locations.
No one from the public spoke in opposition to this appeal.
Answering questions from the Board,Mr. Greeno explained that one building sign would face
Chapel Road and the other would fact Rte. 5. All three signs would be illuminated from dusk
until dawn.
Mr. Greeno told the Commission that there are trucks that arrive late evening or early morning
that park their trucks and wait for the company to open. The illuminated sign would provide
direction for those trucks.
The Commission had a question on which building sign is allowed and which one is being
requested? Michele Lipe, Assistant Planner, explained that a business is allowed one building
sign on their frontage. In this case, since this applicant fronts Chapel Road and Rte 5, it would
be the applicants decision which side of the building to place the proposed sign.
With no further questions, the public participation portion of this appeal closed at 6:35 p.m.

Mrs. Jeanne Allard came before the Board to represent this application. She explained that they
had previously installed a 21' above ground pool. There are two existing decks,which Mrs.
Allard would like to connect together by expanding the existing deck and adding a new piece of
deck.
Mrs. Allard told the Commission that there is a dip in the backyard,which prevents the building
line from being straight. Therefore, the comer of the proposed deck would be 2' over the
building line.
No one from the public spoke in favor or opposition to this appeal.
Answering questions from the Board, Mrs. Allard explained the ground level deck(expansion) is
located in the proposed area in order for each deck to have access to each other.
With no further questions, the public participation portion of this appeal closed at 6:42 p.m.
