Bowen, President The Green Scene 149 Goodwin Street East Hartford, CT 06108 Re: Lot No.23 Seapave Road; South Windsor, CT. ; Geotechnical Study Dear Mr. Bowen: 1.0 Herewith are boring data pertaining the above.Five borings were drilled to a maximum depth of 27 feet.Borings were drilled by Clarence Welt!Associates, lnc.and sampling was conducted by this f rm solely to obtain indications of subsurface conditions as part of a geotechnical exploration program. No services were performed to evaluate subsurface environmental conditions. 2.0 Geologically the natural soil overburden is of glacial lake origin. The natural soils consist primarily of medium compact to loose stratified Fine to Medium Sand, little Silt, overlying the Varved Silt and Clay. This layer extend to 25 to 30 feet and overlies Fine Sand and Silt with little Gravel. 2.1 The Soils Cross Section is generally as follows: Compact Fine to Medium Sand, some Silt, little Gravel to 2 to 3 feet (probably fill) Medium compact to compact Fine to Medium Sand, little Silt to about 6 feet Loose Fine to Medium Sand, trace to little Silt to about 15 feet Soft to medium stiff Varved Silt and Clay to 25 to 30 feet Medium compact Fine Sand and Silt, little Gravel 1 13 '02 11:08a THE GREEN SCENE 18602918700 } p. 2 _ 2.2 The Water Table was at about 5 feet below grade and could rise to within 3 feet of grade in wet seasons. 2.3 Topographically the site appears to be relatively level. Most of the lot is about 2 feet below the road grade.on Seapave Road. There is drainage ditch along the south side of the lot. 3.0 The Proposed Project is understood to be a 10,000 sf slab on for landscape equipment and an office. It is presumed that there will be considerable parking area around the building, paved or gravel surface. 4.0 The Foundation Design Requirements are presumed to be as follows: 1.The maximum settlement shall not exceed 3/4"and the maximum differential settlement shall not exceed%:of-the maximum settlement. 2.The foundation shall address the seismic section of the building code. 3.The slabs on grade shall not setticmore than 1/2"in excess of the structure settlement. 4.1 Regarding item 2 (above) the soils will not be subject to soil liquefaction during seismic episodes. The site factor"S"can be assumed to be 1.2.The velocity related peak acceleration Ar is 0.11. 5.0 Regarding foundations the building can be constructed on spread footings. The footings shall be on natural ground at least 2.5 feet below existing grade and at least 3.5 feet below finish grades (for frost protection). The soils the proposed'footing level may be somewhat silty and it is recommended that 6"of 3/8"stone be placed beneath the footings. The allowable soil loading can be 2 Tons/sf. 5.1 The summary of design parameters is as follows: 1 Soil Bearing 2.0 Tons/sf Seismic Factor(S) 1.0 Peak Acceleration (A,) 0.11 Frost Protection Depth 3.5 feet Sliding Factor 0.6 2 'Oat 13 02 11:08a THE GREEN SCENE 18602818700 p. 3 I i I i Backfill Unit Weight 125 pcf Active Coefficient 0.27 Passive Coefficient 5.0 At Rest Coefficient 0.45 6.0 Regarding filling and backfilling for slabs on grade the following criteria shall apply. 6.1.All backfill under the slab on grade to within 4"•of the slab to the gradation, cited below. i 6.2.The slab underlayment shall include a 4"layer of 3/8" stone. JAll fill and backfill must be compacted to at least 9S%of modified optimum density. A vapor barrier is required beneath the slab on grade. This should be placed below the 3/8" stone. 6.3 The existing fill can be left in lace under r the slab on grade, but all backhlI shall conform to the ., gradation, cited above. J 7.0 Regarding earthwork the soils are in OSHA Class C and the maximum slope for cuts, which are unshored and exceed 5 feet in depth, shall be 34° (1.5 to 1.0). J 7.1 Compaction p n requirements are as follows: • Under structure and within 4 feet of grade under pavements 95+%of modified optimum density • Below 4 feet under pavements 93+% • Under landscaping 90+% J3 I Odt 13 02 11 : 09a THE GREEN SCENE 18G02918700 p . 4 J , 8.0 Regarding pavements the existing fill can be left in place. The pavement section above existing or new fill shall be as follows: Passenger Car Parking: 2" of Bituminous Concrete on 8" of Processed Stone Entry Roads+ Truck Access: 4,5" of Bituminous Concrete on 8" of Processed Stone It is presumed that the sub-grade beneath the pavement section meets the compaction requirements 9.0 This report has been prepared for specific application to the subject project in accordance with generally accepted soil and foundation engineering practices. No other warranty, express or implied, is made. In the event that any changes in the nature, design and location of structures are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this report should not be considered valid unless the changes are reviewed and conclusions of this report modified or verified in writing. Weather: Cloudy, 75 deg. Observations& Comments: 1. Soil bearing material at bottom of footing inspected and tested. 2.North, East and portion of South walls on in-situ material as found upon excavation. Soil on north wall is compact light brown fine sand with a trace of silt. Soil on east and south walls is compact red-brown fine-coarse sand with some medium coarse ravel and a trace of silt. 3. Soil bearing material on west wall and portion of south wall is compacted sand and gravel. Compaction tests indicate compaction of 90%to 96%maximum dry density. 4. Compacted fill for the building slab is well-compacted gravel with compaction of 95% to 100% and is acceptable. 5. Observation of a Test Hole done at the southeast corner indicated a 6" layer of compact inorganic black sand and silt over a thick layer of very dense red-brown dry fine sand and silt about a foot below the bottom of footings. This soil has is in a pre-consolidated state and will not consolidate or settle under the building load. 6. Based on our inspection of bottom of footing, the soil bearing material is acceptable for the design loads with regards to aci d settlement. ►• F ' d f Submitted By: tC No. 1565 Michael J. Zoppa in East Hartford, CT. In Dec, 2000 the company was moved to a leased industrial building on Burnham St, in South Windsor, We are currently building a new facility on Sea Pave Rd, in South Windsor, The company's main service is the design and screen printing of tee-shirts and other wearables along with the creation of signs and banners. This is accomplished first with an order processing department where all information about a job is entered into a database and scheduled for production. The order then proceeds to the art department where computer aided graphic artists prepare the necessary film separations using laser printers or wide format plotters. These films then make there way to the screen making department where they are used to make the screens for printing. This department is comprised of the actual stretching of fabric on frames, the coating of the screens with a water soluble emulsion and the exposing of the images on the screens. The reclaiming of the screens is also done in this department. Once the screens have been exposed, they along with the job information travel to the production area where they are put together with the goods to be imprinted from our receiving area. Production will determine which press the job will run on, either automatic equipment or manual presses. All wearables are printed with plastisol ink and must travel through a gas fired conveyor dryer to cure the ink. From the end of the dryer, garments are sorted, counted and boxed for shipping. This is a brief explanation of our daily operation that currently employs six full time staff. 0 490 Burnham St. 0 South Windsor, CT 06074 0 Tel.: (860) 289-5881 0 Fax.: (860)291-9442 0 P(922vm SEP 3 2003 South Windsor BUILDING DEPARTMENT a ZOPIR - O LLC tOl SCREEN PRINTING September 3 2003 To Whom It May Concern: This letter is to verify that Michael R. Weather: Cloudy, 75 deg. Observations &Comments: 1. Soil bearing material at bottom of footing inspected and tested. 2. North, East and portion of South walls on in-situ material as found upon excavation. Soil on north wall is compact light brown fine sand with a trace of silt. Soil on east and south walls is compact red-brown fine-coarse sand with some medium-coarse gravel and a trace of silt. 3. Soil bearing material on west wall and portion of south wall is compacted sand and gravel. Compaction tests indicate compaction of 90% to 96% maximum dry density. 4. Compacted fill for the building slab is well-compacted gravel with compaction of 95% to 100%and is acceptable. 6.
