Instructions for door, window F_ and installing shingles also included. You can paint your shed how you like. We will start by buildingthe foundation first before moving onto 9 the walls. The most time-intensive part of this build is building the roof, however all aspects of `a Y this build are straightforward with this shed plan. Side View The right side of the 16'x20' gable shed is home 12110 3/4" to a 6' 10" high and 9'wide garage door. The front of the shed measures 16'1"wide.The total height of this shed is 12'10 3/4" i Front View - The front side of the shed is home to a door and two windows for natural light. The door 1 measures 3'wide and 6'4 1/2"tall. The length of the shed measured from the trim is 20'1"while the length of the shed measured from the roof including overhang is 21'. s0'1^ PREPARATION AND GROUND BREAKING 1.1 To make the shed foundation for 16x20 shed,we will start by cleaning the area of the garden where you want to place your shed. Check Figure 1.1 below for reference. Figure 1.1 1.2 Wxt step is to locate five 20 feet 4x4 skids with a total distance of 16 feet in width. The gap between skids will be 3 feet 7 3/5 inches. 1.3 After locating the skids, now dig skid beds with the help of shovel. Next mark the areas on floor bands with pencil. Those areas are where you will have to nail each band with floor joists in further process. Mark the areas with a gap of 15 1/2 inches between each other. See illustration below for more details. Mark areas like this 51/2" i 10 a 20' 2x6 Peassure-treated Band 2.3 Next stepin this process is to lace the marked 2x6 floor band onto the 4x4 skids like show below in P P illustration. Now with the help of driller, drill the 6 inch holes right through the floor band and into the 4x4 skids. 2.4 Screw 6 inch bolts into the drilled holes between marked areas. Repeat the process to make seventeen floor joists like this. 2.6 After that take these floorjoists and place them between the floor bands and onto the 4x4 skids. Now nail 3.5" galvanized nails right through the floor band and into floor joists. Nail in the areas where green dots are shown. You will have to nail around sixty 3.5" galvanized nails to attach the floor band and floor joists properly and firmly. Check illustration below for demonstration. You will need to nail 0.74 inch tongue and groove plywood on the foundation's frame. You can do this by cutting the plywood into multiples sizes as mentioned above. You will nail the frame using 2 inches nails or screws as shown in the illustration. It is recommended to cut the plywood into two so that you can easily nail it in place firmly. JOINING LUMBERS END-TO-END 4.1 In market, the maximum length available for a 2x4 lumber is 16 feet. Now in this shed,we will be using extra-long 2x4 studs measuring upto 20 feet in length for wall plates. So to make an extra-long 20 feet 2x4 wall plate, you will have to buy one 2x412 feet studs and one 2x410 feet stud. Now take the 10 feet stud and cut it into the length of 8 feet 2 inches.Cut the facing ends of both studs in "L"shape(as shown in the illustration). After cutting the facing ends, you need to join and fix both studs together by using wood glue. Check the illustration below for more details. 12 feet 2x4 Stud l . 2 8 feet 2 inches 2x4 Stud Gorilla Wood Glue to fix both studs together w. ?fir' GORILLA This is an important step since most lumber available in the market is only about 16 feet. For this shed,we will be needing lumber approximately of 20 feet. You will be joining two pieces of lumber as shown in the illustration to make a 20 feet long piece. Follow the measurements in the illustration to accurately join the lumber pieces together. JOINING LUMBERS END-TO-END 4.2 Next step in this process is to join and fix both studs together properly, so that the cut ends do not get loose. To do that, first we need to drill two holes in the middle area of both cut ends(as shown in the illustration). 4.3 Now take all 0.5 inch thick and 12 inches long wood dowels we brought and cut each dowel in three parts, measuring each part 4 inches. 4.4 Now take that 4 inch dowel and hammer it into the drilled holes of both studs. 4.5 At last, remove the extra part of dowels and our extra-long 20 feet stud is ready. Check the illustration below for more details. Drill holes like this right through the end .y dowel . ` J loch woo PPPP r x- Cut the extra part of each 4 Inch dowel from both up and downsides Once you have measured and cut the lumbers, you now need to join and fix both the studs together as shown in the image. Make sure the ends are not loose. Follow the illustration precisely to make sure you fit the lumbers together well. BUILDING FRONT WALL, WINDOWS AND DOOR 5.1 With the foundation built it's time to move onto the front wall. This will take you several hours to build due to the many pieces of lumber involved. In the illustration below, you can see how the front wall should be constructed. BUILDING ROOF RAFTERS Building a roof for a large shed is a straight forward job, especially if you plans everything from the very beginning. If you want to get the job done quickly or you don't have a large expertise in the field,we recommend you to build a gable roof for your storage construction. s i I i BUILDING ROOF RAFTERS 11.1 To make the roof section, first we need to determine the measurements of rafters, ridge-board,center gable stud and rafter overhang. Check the illustration below for more details. 2x6 Ridge Board Right-side 2x4 Rafter il Left-side 2x4 Rafter T;! g'6" f ' 6 7/10" 44 1/2 2x4 Top Plate (Front Wall) 2x4 Center Gable Stud Use this illustration as reference for roof section, which shows how rafters, ridge-board, center gable stud and top plates are arranged. Detailed measurements are also shown which will help in building the roof section. Rafters are joined together with the ridge-board and walls top plates. BUILDING ROOF RAFTERS 11.2 There are total 24 rafters each 2"x4" in dimension. These rafters are 9 feet 6 inch long. These rafters will be used to assemble into trusses in further instructions. Please note that out of total 24 rafters only 20 rafters will have birdsmouth cut and rest four will not. See next page on how to make birdsmouth cut. 1.5"x3.5" Rafter — w x + Each rafter is 9 feet 6 inch long 0 1 4 m I '1 ni1j111'( 8 1T11 (1 9 1 11TT1(► 0 1 i When building the rafters, it's crucial that they are all exactly the same. Any difference in angle, width or length will have to be corrected. There are 24 rafters in total so take your time when making them. Overleaf, you will discover the angle and measurements you need. BUILDING ROOF RAFTERS 11.3 Now first step in the process of making a roof rafter is to take a 2x4 10 feet stud and cut it into the length of 9 feet 6 inch.
