President November 22, 2010 South Windsor Building Department South Windsor, CT 06237 Re: Solar Electric Panels Roof Structural Framing Support To Whom It May Concern: I hereby certify that I am a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut. The 2x6, 16" o.c., framing structure below the roof is definitely adequate, up to span of 11'-11",with our evaluation being accurate and precise to sustain the additional approximate 4.33 Ib/sq ft roof load (modules plus all mounting hardware), 24 psf snow load (30 psf ground snow load reference) and the design wind speed of 115 mph wind uplift load of approximate 19.6 lb/sg ft imposed by the 9.84 kw Solar Electric 48-205 Suntech Module System proposed to be installed at the residence of Paul & Linda Brodeur, 1075 Pleasant Valley Road South Windsor, Connecticut 06074 and is in general conformance to the manufacturer's specifications, and in our professional opinion, is in compliance with all applicable laws, codes and ordinances No existing roof vents or penetrations will be affected by installation of the solar array. The spacing of the UniRac mounting brackets ("feet") is at a maximum of 64" o c along the rail and using 5/16" x 3 %" length lag bolts to mount rails to rafters while alternating mounting feet between adjacent rafters between rail rows for better distribution of roof load. Rails may be attached to either of two mounting holes in the L-feet Then mount in the lower hole for a low profile, more aesthetically pleasing installation Mount in the upper hole for a higher profile, which will maximize airflow under the modules This will cool them more and may enhance performance in hotter climates Slide the 39-inch mounting bolts into the footing bolt slots. The rails will be attached to the footings with the flange nuts. The 5/16" x 3 %" length lag bolts are more than adequate to resist the 115 mph wind loads. uuuuun Very truly yours, OF CONN' '''. Powered"' PVP1 100 to PVP5200 String Inverters Proven Reliability - Now With an Integrated AC and DC PV System Disconnect Listed to the UL 98 Standard PV Powered, Inc.continues to deliver industry-leading reliability and technical innovations that lower the total cost of PV systems installation. PV Powered is now the only manufacturer of a residential inverter-integrated AC/DC PV System Disconnect that is listed to the UL 98 Standard. The UL 98 Standard, called "Enclosed and Dead-front Switches," ensures the integrated PV Powered disconnect meets all installation and inspection requirements of a PV System Disconnect. Housed within an NEC Compliant wire raceway, PV Powered's innovative disconnect consists of one enclosure with generous working room for installation. In addition to providing for a single point of connection from the utility service and PV array, the wire raceway's optimized knockout locations also provide options for side, bottom and back entry with minimized conduit bending. U N I RAC Installation Manual 908.1 Splices/Expansion Joints In runs exceeding 45 feet of rail,Unirac recommends the use of expansion joints. Runs of rail less than 45 feet in length, _ with more than two pairs spliced together, are an acceptable " installation for the SolarMount and SunFrame systems. As 11 long as installations conform to the standard methods outlined in the Installation Manual 227(SolarMount)and 809(Sun- Frame),it will not void the Unirac warranty. Expansion joints: Expansion joints prevent buckling of rails due to thermal ex- pansion. In runs of rail exceeding 45 feet, expansion joints are required. Only the splice bars, not splice plates, may be used for thermal expansion joints. Splice bars slide into the footing bolt slots of SolarMount or To create a thermal expansion joint, slide the splice bar into SunFrame footing bolt slots. They are secured by No.10x 3/4-inch the footing slots of both rail lengths.Leave approximately half stainless steel,self-drilling screws.Expansion joints are secured on an inch between the segments.Secure the splice bar with two one side only. screws on one side only.Footings(such as L-feet or standoffs) should be secured normally on both sides of the splice. No PV module or mounting hardware component should straddle the expansion joint. A string of modules must clearly ' end before the joint with mounting hardware(top mount ' clamps or bottom up clips) terminating on that rail. The next string of modules would then commence following the splice / with mounting hardware beginning on the next rail. / Caution \ l Stainless steel hardware can seize up,a process called galling. To \ significantly reduce the likelihood of galling, apply a small drop of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of all bolts before installation. Anti-seize lubricants are readily available in any auto parts and Splice plates are for use with SolarMount standard and HD rails some hardware stores. In their absence, any lubricant will reduce only.Hexhead bolts slide into the footing slots of the rails.Flange chances of galling.Do not use anti-sieze on self-drilling screws. nuts secure the plate. 10 year limited Product Warranty Unirac,Inc.,warrants to the original purchaser with Unirac's written installation instructions,or sole discretion.Such repair or replacement shall ("Purchaser")of product(s)that it manufactures if the Product has been modified, repaired,or completely satisfy and discharge all of Unirac's ("Product')at the original installation site that reworked in a manner not previously authorized liability with respect to this limited Warranty. the Product shall be free from defects in material by Unirac IN WRITING,or if the Product is Under no circumstances shall Unirac be liable and workmanship for a period of ten(10)years, installed in an environment for which it was for special, indirect or consequential damages from the earlier of 1)the date the installation not designed.Unirac shall not be liable for arising out of or related to use by Purchaser of of the Product is completed,or 2)30 days after consequential, contingent or incidental damages the Product. the purchase of the Product by the original arising out of the use of the Product by the Manufacturers of related items, such as PV Purchaser. This Warranty does not cover damage Purchaser under any circumstances, modules and fleshings, may provide written to the Product that occurs during its shipment, If within the specified Warranty period the warranties of their own.Unirac's limited storage,or installation. ACM removal was performed to meet the requirements of the USEPA Asbestos National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants(NESHAP)(40 CFR Part 61 Subpart M)prior to the scheduled demolition ofthe building structure. TRC was on-site.during all removal activities performed by Petco and provided project compliance monitoring and industrial hygiene services during the course of the asbestos removal project. Asbestos removal was completed by Petco September 25, 2003. If you have any questions, please call TRC at(860) 298-9692. Q p identified on the building components and TRC collected representative samples of the building components per CTDEP sampling guidelines in approximate percent by weight proportions to represent the building as a whole. Each sample was analyzed following the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure(TCLP) for the Resource Conservation Recovery Act(RCRA)Metals most likely to be present in this type of structure. The sample was. a composite of wood, wallboard, brick, flooring, roofing and other building materials. The sample did not include any metal components, as metal items should be recycled to promote waste nunirruzation efforts, rather than disposed of, and the recycling operation is exempt from the USEPA RCRA and CTDEP Hazardous Waste regulations. Inmost instances, the sample will not include foundation materials(concrete/stone/etc.), as these materials are used as clean fill during the demolition process and are therefore not part of the waste disposal stream. TCLP testing revealed the building debris, when disposed of in its entirety, to be characterized as hazardous waste, TCLP testing excluding the exterior clapboard has however, revealed the remainder of the building debris to be characterized as non-hazardous waste. Therefore, Earth Technology LLC (ETL) of North Haven, Connecticut under the direction of the demolition contractor Earth Technology, Inc. (ETI) of North Haven, Connecticut is removing the exterior clapboards for disposal as hazardous waste prior to the commencement of building demolition, The EPA hazardous waste generator ID#for the site is CTP 000027451. TRC has been on-site during the exterior clapboard removal providing project compliance monitoring and industrial hygiene services. The exterior clapboard removal is expected to be completed by September 30, 2003.
