GEOTECH,INC. South Windsor, CT Contractor: Simscroft Echo Farms, Inc. Project No.. 02396C Weather: Sunny&clear, 86 degrees Date: June 21, 2002 Purpose: To perform field density testing. Contractor Activities: Upon this writer's arrival, Simscroft Echo Farms was observed applying compactive efforts to the material placed 9-inches below finish grade. Compactive efforts were applied using a vibratory roller. Two field density tests showed that the 95% specified minimum compaction was not achieved. Additional compactive efforts with a 10-ton vibratory roller showed no improvement. This writer performed a surface test, which showed that the moisture of the material was low within the first two inches of the surface. This writer was therefore asked to return on Monday June 24, 2002 when water would be available on site. JGI Activities: Four field density tests were performed on today's earthwork using a nuclear density gauge in general accordance with ASTM D 2922. Four of the test results indicated that the specified 95% minimum compaction requirement had not been achieved as compared to ASTM D 698 test methods. Additional compactive efforts were applied to these areas and compactive efforts indicated adequate compaction. Please refer to the attached Field Density Test Summary for individual test data. The General Contractor was notified of these results prior to JGI's departure from the site. Locations of today's project activities are illustrated on the attached Field Sketch. Prepared by: N. Project No.. 02396C Weather: Clearing, 80 degrees Date: June 24, 2002 Purpose: To perform field density testing. Contractor Activities: Upon this writer's arrival, it was determined that this morning's early rain would provide adequate moisture for optimum compaction. Compactive efforts were applied using a vibratory roller. Field density tests show that even after the maximum compactive effort, 95% of the 141.2 maximum dry density from lab # C1086-02 could not be achieved. Therefore, it was concluded that there had been a sampling error. Observing last week's compactive effort as well as today's, this writer used the highest field dry density as the maximum density for a field proctor. This writer was notified that past station 5+00, different material from Charbonneau and Sons was placed client provided proctor information for this material. The tests show that 95%maximum compaction was achieved. JGI Activities: Eight field density tests were performed on previously placed earthwork using a nuclear density gauge in general accordance with ASTM D 2922. The test results indicated that the specified 95% minimum compaction requirement had been achieved as compared to ASTM D 698 test methods. Please refer to the attached Field Density Test Summary for individual test data. The General Contractor was notified of these results prior to JGI's departure from the site.
