Gentlemen: Complaint against "Glow Core" gas heating installation, Brookside Condos, 1101 Pleasant Valley Road. , South Windsor, Ct. 06074 This is to report extreme dissatisfaction with the above named heating-hot-water installation in my condo for the reasons set forth: 1 ) In five years owner-occupancy in 1 -5 Ivy Lane, Brookside Condos, my repair on this furnace installation have exceeded $1 , 400, with this week's repair that required a new rubber (auto radiator-type) hose. 2) Several heating firms have refused emergency service requests here because this "Glow Core" furnace install- ation: a) is a "nightmare to work on" with a "rube goldberg" type assembly/arrangement of wires and components assembled wiL1_1 dP'PcL1CfL_'. corupleta ui.sregard fir cn giia eering assembly organization. b) There is no local supply of parts and/or compon- ents for the "Glow Core". c) The furnace operation is extremely noisy. I have had my ceiling area over the furnace covered with sound-absorbing material. It is still heard on the first and second floor up. c) I have found 2 local service facilities/contract- ors, but even these (although they would not admit to the fact) handle a service request on a "Glow Core" on an "if and when we can" basis. The original install- er, "Envirotech of Vernon, Ct. , went out of business three years ago. page 2, Complaint on "Glow Core" cont 'd. e) My problems with the "Glow Core" have run the gamut from wiring, to a broken water pump, to replacement of a heat exchanger, to a faulty water reservoir, to a broken hose. f) Such a utility installation of any residence or business that requires an owner/occupant- to "baby sit", that is, requiring constant atten- tion, is most inappropriate, particularly for a condo. I am one of several owners/occupants that was never told or instructed that the water reser- voir had to be constantly watched/supplied or the furnace would malfunction, requiring a "service call" . My first experience with this "glow Core" was awaking at 6:00 AM to a cold condo on December 23, 1989. At that time, after 5 hours, I got the original installer, "Envirotech" of Vernon, Ct. out for service. That owner/contractor reported that he was required by the condo builder to install "glow Core' furnaces because they were the cheapest-installation unit available. Because of the stress of that experience, I suffered a heart attack,, and open-heart surgery in St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. I strongly encourage the prohibition of the "Glow Core" furnace unit as I know it, sale and/or installation in Connecticut. 4X problems are not an isolated case in this development. Sincerel , kWPB.
