Morneault Date: December 10, 197,6 I I r FINDING: The town of S. Windsor is planning to construct a fire station on a five acre parcel. The soils on the property are mostly moderately well-drained and I ' poorly drained (see the attached soils map and descriptions) . The N nigret soils have a seasonal high water table within 18 to 20 inches of the surface. The Swanton soil is underlain by silt and clay, and has severe limit tions for buildings and local roads and streets due to wetness and susceptibilitytofrostaction. Plans call for filling of the wetland area and constr ction of the b ilding Ionaconcreteslab. A 4" underdrain is planned for the west driveway . Storm drainage will be piped from an existing 18" culvert under Ellington Foad to an open drainage ditch to be constructed near the west property line Another storm drainage pipe is to be installed from the east side of the par ing lot to the detention basin. A 150 feet, 4" underdrain is planned under the park- ing lot. Depth is approximately 31 .I CO2`MENTS & RECOi-ZENDATIONS I . The Swanton wetland soil is a very fine sandy loam. The soil is difficult to drain. Additional subsurface drainage lines would be desirable. 2. Backfill subsurface drainage trenches with bank run &ravel or crushed trap rock. 3. Install hay bale check dams to tra2 sediment at the outlet end of the drainage ditch. r I a f I 1 i page 2 i 4. Re-vegetate disturbed areas. Lime and fertilize according to so 1 test result recommendations. If soil test is not available, consult theConnecti- cut Sediment and Erosion Control Handbook, revised 1976, for recome dations, Seed mixture information for the appropriate use and site conditions can also be obtained from the publication. I 5. Drainage ditch will require maintenance such as annual mowing to suppress weed and brush growth.
