SANITARY REPORT
FOR
ALBERT MEYER
This proposal is for additional buildings to be built to the
rear of the Meyer Gage facility at 230 Burnham Street in South
Windsor. The project consists of four 60 by 80 foot buildings
connected in a row for a total area of 19,200 square feet. All
surrounding properties are industrially zoned and these units
will also be for industrial usage. Existing drainage for this
site is split with approximately half the drainage flowing
toward the railroad right of way to the west and the other half
flowing to properties to the east. The proposed project directs
runoff toward the west where it will be intercepted by the
drainage system in the railroad right of way. There are no
streams, brooks or rivers located in the vicinity. There are
also no wetlands on site or within 100 feet of the site.
Subsurface conditions are indicated in the test pit logs shown
on the plan. Soils in the area of the proposed leaching system
are well drained sand with groundwater at approximately 10 feet
and no ledge visible at a 12 foot depth. The percolation rate
for the soil was less than 1 minute per inch. Both test pits
and perc test were witnessed by the Town Sanitarian. Using
Table 4 from Section IV of the State Technical Standards, a
maximum office usage of one employee per 150 square feet
generating 20 gallons per employee per day would yield a daily
sewage flow of 2560 gallons per day. Although a 100 percent
office usage in an industrial facility is unlikely, the system
was designed to handle this "worst case" . The leaching system
consists of four 72 foot trenches with 2 foot deep leaching
galleries. A more detailed description of location, pipe sizes,
inverts and effective area computation is located on the plan.
The bottom of this system maintains an elevation greater than 18
inches above high seasonal groundwater and, as an area with a
rapid perc rate, ,an elevation greater than 10 feet above ledge
in accordance with the requirements of the State Health Code.
Water needs will be served from the MDC main in Burnham Street,
therefore there is no well proposed on the site.
In conclusion, the site and soils seem well suited to the system
proposed. There should be no detrimental impact involved with
the proposed leaching system.

GENERAL COMMENTS
1. A detail of the proposed precast drywell should be
included,,-ba sad ov. soils,
dzRr IV(fix
2. A handicap access ramp should be included on the plan.
3. A cross section detail for the proposed concrete sidewalk
should be provided.
4. Based upon review of Chart 32 of the Soil Survey of
Hartford County, much of the parcel is located within
Ninigret fine sandy loam (NnA). The two test pits
performed indicate the presence of this soil.
5. Four paved leak-off areas are proposed for the site. It
is recommended that catch basins replace the leak-offs
and be directed into the existing drainage system in
Burnham Street.
6. A hydrological analysis indicating pre- and post-
development discharge conditions has not been provided
and is therefore not part of this review.
