Gentlemen : At the request of Mr . Larry Morse of Acorn Home Improvement , I have checked the roof construction at the above address . The existing 2x6 roof rafters at 24" o . c . is not enough to support the loads . An additional 2x6 rafter should be installed between the existing ones , making the spacing 12" o . c . Since the roofing is on the new rafters , it will have to be glued to the plywood sheathing. This will also help support the 1/2" plywood sheathing , which should have been 5/811 . Due to the existing construction , the new rafters will have to be installed slightly short and shimmed into position. Collar ties should be installed on the new rafters at the midpoint .
