The previous shed was approximately the same size as the one proposed. The previous shed had no particular character and was of homemade construction. Our guess is that it lasted approximately 30 years. The proposed carriage shed will be located in a flat clearing about 75 feet to the rear of our house. The structure would not be visible unless one drove up the right of way. It will be built by Country Carpenters of Bolton, CT that specializes in pre-cut,post& beam buildings. It will be 18 feet wide (in front) and 22 feet deep. Attached is an example from their brochure. An exact plan is now being completed by Country Carpenters and will be submitted when we receive it. Our shed will only have one bay, instead ofthe two shown. The roofpitch ofthis "Saltbox Carriage House"will be 8 and 12. The shingles will be charcoal asphalt(same as our house). We plan to have a copper weathervane, but no cupola. The siding will be shiplap. There will be a side door and window and a front window. The carriage shed bay will have a swing out door with black hand forged hinges(see other attachment for illustration). Two windows will have flower boxes. The foundation will be concrete, but the floor will be stone. The structure will be natural in color. We believe this will be an attractive, functional structure that will maintain if not enhance the character ofour area.
