The project was designed prior to the new codes going into effect. Under the old code, smoke and heat vents were not required. Now they are, in buildings or areas of use F1 with over 50,000 SF of undivided space. The drawings were originally completed December 15, 2005. Upon review from the clients out of state Corporate Headquarters, received just after the new year, it was decided to change the addition from being at a low structural bay height (matching up with the existing production area) to be at a high structural bay to marry up with their storage bay area. The roof structure in certain areas along with the columns, foundation and footings all had to.be re-designed along with the building facade. This was completed in one month, and drawings submitted February 3, 2006. After the clients review of these plans, it was decided to go back and lower the entire first structural bay along col. EE.1 at the existing building so that there was no added cost and disruption to operations for reinforcing work that had to be done to the existing roof for snow drifts. The drawings were revised again and completed March 1, 2006. I ask that since the owner's changes occurred almost exactly as the new code was taking affect for something that was not even an issue previously, be taken into account and considered reason for granting this request. Also, would the vents be required in the existing building? If so, they would have to cut in excess of 50 openings in the existing roof to meet the requirements. This seems a bit unreasonable. 1379 MAIN STREET • EAST HARTFORD,CT 06108 860-289-3262 • CAPITALSTUDIO.NET • FAX 860-289-3163 The building addition although unseparated, is less than 5ownersrequest, and E.S.F.R. sprinkler system in the addition. 0'000 SF.draft curtain from the conventional sprinkler system.
