On April 20, 2017, our office conducted an inspection of your property located at 68 Mascolo
Road. During our inspection a number of code violations were identified. Among those violations
was the lack of fire protection for powder coating operations (NFPA 33 [2011 Edition], Chapter
15, Section 15.5). This violation was allowed to remain outstanding while our office conducted
more research and consulted with experts in the field.
After thoroughly researching all applicable fire codes and referenced standards — both from
today and when operations began at your facility in 1985 — it is our final determination that all
powder coating operations at your facility must be protected by an approved automatic fire
protection system. The 2011 Edition of NFPA 33 offers a list of various types of approved fire
protection systems.
We recognize that outfitting your facility to meet these requirements might be costly and time
consuming. For those reasons we request that you provide us —within 45 days from receipt of
this letter—with a well-organized, written plan of action to complete these upgrades. Your plan
of action should include drawings, vendor quotes, a projected timeline, and a completed request
for extension form. Your plan will be subject to review and approval by our office, and
inspections will be conducted when necessary to ensure compliance.
