Dear Homeowner,
Please be advised that this letter is being sent to you following the recent application for a
building permit for renovation work at your home located at 136 Robert Drive in the
town of South Windsor.
I wanted to make you aware of the 2010 US Environmental Protection Agency
Renovation, Repair,and Painting (RRP) Rule. This rule requires that contractors who
perform renovation work that disturbs paint in pre-1978 home be RRP certified. This
certification is intended to ensure that the contractor understands lead safe work
practices.
Enclosed, please find a copy of the EPA brochure entitled, "Renovate Right",which
describes this rule in more detail.
The CT Department of Public Health has indicated that childhood lead poisoning has
shown little to no improvement despite generalized educational efforts over the last
several y ears. They have encouraged us to give more targeted education in hopes of
becoming more effective in preventing childhood lead poisoning.
We are committed to continue to work toward preventing lead poisoning in children as
well as adults and we hope that our efforts result in less environmental lead exposure.
