RE: Water Supply Well Receptor Survey
Orchard Hill School(new school)
350 Foster Street,South Windsor
MMI#3057-67-13
Dear Mr. Neary:
The Town of South Windsor submitted a Notification of Significant Environmental Hazard on
December 15,2014. The notification was associated with a detection of dieldrin in the uppermost 2 feet
of soil. The notification was acknowledged by the CT DEEP in a December 19,2014 letter.
Milone&MacBroom, Inc.,on behalf of the Town of South Windsor, has conducted additional research
into the possible presence of privately owned water supply wells in the immediate vicinity of the parcel
where the soil samples were collected. The research was conducted using multiple sources of
information including the South Windsor Assessor's records, information provided by the local water
supply company(Connecticut Water Company),and visual observations of several properties.
The research generally involved an evaluation of properties within multiple search radii:
• Properties within 500 feet of the subject site parcel boundaries
• Properties within 500 feet of the apparent historic limits of the former orchard lands on the
subject site parcel
• Properties within 500 feet of the two soil samples with dieldrin concentrations
The enclosed map summarizes the results of the Water Supply Well Receptor Survey.
A hybrid search radius was developed based upon the overall results of the soil sampling. The search
was conducted for the area within 500 feet of the eastern and southern parcel boundaries based upon
the fact that the former orchard area extended beyond the parcel boundaries in these directions. A
search radius of 500 feet from sample locations"3D"and "511"was used in the northerly and westerly
directions since the previous soil sampling program yielded relatively good delineation of soil impacts in
these directions as well as vertically at the actual soil sample locations. -
The results of the research Indicated that two parcels located along Foster Street are located within the
modified search area and are likely served by private water supply wells. These-parcels are located at
