RE: WETLAND DELINEATIONS
36 Sally Drive, South Windsor, CT
REMA Job#19-2161-SM 04
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Joseph:
At your request, on March 20, 2019, a REMA ECOLOGICAL SERVICES, LLC (REMA) soil
scientist, delineated regulated wetlands at the above-referenced property, pursuant to the
Connecticut State Statutes.
Specifically, an isolated regulated wetland was delineated to the rear (easterly) of
property's single-family residence, with sequential, alpha-numeric flagging (i.e., RES-A-1
to RES-A-11) (see Figure A, attached). The first and last flags in the sequence were tied to
a wire fence, located at about the southern property boundary.
The soils observed within the delineated wetland, and indeed from the wetland boundary
westerly to the residence, are all disturbed in nature (i.e., mostly sandy fill). The wetlands
are mapped as Aquents (308w), while the uplands are mapped as Udorthents (308).
Probing at depths deeper than 30 inches reveals what could possibly have been the original
wetland soil profile.
A black plastic pipe brings water to this wetland from the residential property immediately
to the south. A similar pipe, located just east of wetland boundary marker RES-A-3, drains

a portion of the delineated wetland to points north/northwest, probably to the Sally Drive
drainage system. At the time of site visit low flows were observed discharging from the
first pipe and entering the second. The soils within the wetland were saturated at the
surface, but less so below 15 inches.
Redoximorphic features (e.g., mottles, manganese staining) and low chroma soil matrixes
were not particularly pronounced, except in few of the soil samples. However, within the
southern, open section of the wetland hydrophytes were prevalent, including purple
willowherbs, red top, and stout wood reedgrass. The northern portion of the wetland has a
shrub layer dominated by spicebush, with red maple and white pine at its edges. Other
observed vegetation associated with the wetland included Rose of Sharon, grasses,
multiflora rose, and Japanese barberry.
This disturbed wetland appears to mostly convey surface and piped runoff/discharge. It
provides negligible wetland functions and values.
Please feel free to contact our office with any questions on the above.
Respectfully submitted,
