Wetlands are defined as"soil types designated as poorly drained, very poorly drained, alluvial, and floodplain by the National Cooperative Soils Survey." Watercourses are defined as "rivers, streams, brooks, waterways, lakes, ponds, marshes, swamps, bogs and all other bodies of water, natural or artificial, vernal or intermittent, public or private."Intermittent watercourses are identified by"a defined permanent channel and bank and the occurrence of two or more of the following characteristics: (a) Evidence of scour or deposits of recent alluvium or detritus, (b)the presence of standing or flowing water for a duration longer than a particular storm incident, and (c)the presence of hydrophytic vegetation. " Federal jurisdictional wetland boundaries are defined by 33 CFR 328-329. Federal jurisdictional wetlands are "those areas that are inundated or saturated by surface or groundwater at a frequency and duration sufficient to support, and that under normal circumstances do support, a prevalence of vegetation typically adapted for life in saturated soil conditions."Federal wetlands were delineated in accordance with the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Northcentral and Northeast Region (Version 2.0,January 2012).Activities occurring within Inland Waters and Wetlands within the State of Connecticut are subject to approval by the US Army Corps of Engineers, New England District. SUMMARY OF SOILS Wetland Soils Aquepts:Poorly to very poorly drained soils with an aquic moisture regime and showing some soil development in the B-horizon. Soils mapped as Aquepts at the site belong to the Raypol series. Upland Soils Udorthents:Well drained to excessively drained soils that have been disturbed by cutting or filling, and areas that are typically covered by buildings and pavement. Ninigret and Tisbury: Moderately well drained loamy soils formed in silty eolian deposits overlying outwash formed on nearly level and gently sloping soils on outwash plains and terraces, typically in slight depressions and broad drainageways. Haven and Enfield:Well drained soils formed in loamy over sandy and gravelly outwash. They are nearly. level through moderately sloping soils on outwash plains, valley trains, terraces, and water-sorted moraine deposits. SUMMARY OF WATERCOURSE AND HYDROLOGY The only watercourse on site is located along the northern boundary. This intermittent Watercourse is fed, in minor part, by local groundwater discharge. The most significant source of hydrology to the watercourse is stormwater discharge. An 24-inch culvert that originates from Buckland Street discharges at the head of the watercourse. The flows from this pipe have resulted in scour and down- cutting, which appear to have reached a stable condition. This intermittent watercourse offers minimal Page 2 of 3 \\private\dR\PmjectI>aLi\P2000\481\S60\\\'etlands\lotl6_FIR,\ 1C'etlai,d_Report 201711103.do" FUSS&O'NEILL WETLAND DELINEATION REPORT ecological functions or values. There is some groundwater discharge,as noted above;otherwise, the watercourse serves as a conveyance providing no retention of flood flow, sediment reduction or nutrient renovation, and there is little to no wildlife habitat. WETLAND FUNCTIONS&VALUES An evaluation of wetland functions and values was conducted for the area along the northern boundary of the site. This intermittent watercourse and associated wetlands provide the following principal functions:groundwater recharge/discharge as well as sediment and nutrient retention. Wildlife habitat is a limited, secondary function of this wetland.
