mixed into the affected soil, or the affected soil`clean'topsoil. will be placed below six inches of
Phase N-Some or all of the soil within lots 55,56,57, 59,60, 61, 62,63,64,and the two open
space lots_include contaminated soil to approximately eight inches deep. Additionally,
some of soil within lots 63, 64, and the proposed open space lots includes
contaminated soil to approximately 20 inches deep. These areas will be treatedusing
phytoremediation.
In May (year to be determined) a mixture of either ryegrass or tall fescues will be
applied to-the affected areas by hydroseeding along with fertilizer and soil binding
agent. Through hydroseeding,,it is anticipated that a dense,uniform lay"of ,
the y grass will,
be quickly established allowing pesticide contaminants to be reduced by
rhizodegradation processes (stimulated by the grass root zone). Although slower than
soil
mixing and anaerobic dehalogenation(it can take a.few growing seasons to seethe
desired results), this type of phytoremediation process will not cause as much site
disruption, provides an effective soil erosion and sedimentation control, and is more
aesthetically pleasing:
At the close of each growing season, (approximately November),several soil samples
will be collected and analyzed for target pesticides and arsenic. The analytical results
will be evaluated to measure the remediation progress of the-previous.:Pre growing:season.
Based on this evaluation, if needed, the.remedial strategy for Phase IV may be revised
to more quickly decrease target contaminant concentrations.
The proposed remedial actions are depicted on the remedial action siteplan included as Figure 2.
A remedial action implementation schedule will be provided once the proposed subdivision plans
have been approved and the develop
er is set to begin Phase.TI of the development. Remediation
of Phases III and IV will begin one year before the proposed road is constructed.
