Operation of un-signalized intersections is also evaluated in terms of Level-of-Service(LOS)and
is defined in terms of average control delay. For two-way stop sign corrtrolled intersections,
LOS is determined for each minor street movement and not the intersection as a whole. This is r
because the major street movement usually does not have a stop control and is not subject to
significant delays. LOS is rated on a scale from A to F,with LOS A representing an intersection
with minimum average control delay and LOS F indicating a complete breakdown of intersection '
operation LOS evaluation criteria for un-signalized intersections is summarized below:
Level-of-Service Criteria '
Un-s' abed Intersections
A <10 '
B >10 and<15
C >15 and 5
D >25 and '
E >35 and<50
F >50
The methodology for calculating the average control delay and thus determining the LOS is '
taken from the"Highway Capacity Manual", last revised 2000, published by the Transportation
Research Board. It is this document which is the most widely accepted method by transportation '
and planning professionals for evaluating intersection operation. The software utilized to
perform the calculations McTrans Highway capacity Software.
LOS calculations were conducted for the study intersections and the proposed site driveway '
during AM and PM peak hours for both Background and Full Development scenarios. The LOS
results and average vehicle delays are summarized in the table below and the calculations are '
contained in Appendix B.
