connecting sidewalk should be concrete, textured pavement, landscape blocks or
other hard, low maintenance surface. Grass or plants will not grow well here.
12. 1 think there should be more"No Parking" signs along the driveway and
connecting drive to the west so vehicles do not park there
13.Check the grades in the driveway from Sullivan Avenue to the building. There is
a steep 10% grade into the parking lot and about a 2% grade down the driveway
to the north side of the building. Then the driveway to the north side of the
building has about a 5%cross slope which is steep. These driveway grades will
be difficult to construct, very awkward, and maybe unsafe for vehicles to
maneuver. Check and revise the grades to make the entrance drive more user
friendly and safer.
14.Label the flared ends where the drainage pipes discharge to the two detention
basins and the wetlands area.
15. In the northern detention basin, change the rip rap splash pad to a large rip rap
plunge pool/energy dissipater as the water has to slow down and turn more than
90 degrees to flow to the outlet structure from this basin.
16.Move CB 8 to the east about 10 feet so it is not in front of any future access to
property to the north. Adjust the grades to this basin accordingly.
17.Grade the area of the access easement to the north so it can work as a paved
driveway in the future.
18.Extend the discharge end of the outlet pipe from the northern detention basin
about 10 feet to the west so it is clear of any future access driveway to the north.
19.Bend the rip rap splash pad to fit in the bottom of the west detention basin.
20.The wood guide rail needs to be designed to withstand vehicle impacts, such as
the Merritt Parkway guide rail used by ConnDOT. The detail needs to show large
timbers and a substantial steel plate backing up the horizontal wood rails.
21.The storm water from this site and the site to the west is piped through an existing
double catch basin in the north west comer of a parking lot to the west, and then
discharges to an existing small detention basin. Storm water flows from this
double catch basin into the small detention basin, and then also flows from the
small detention basin back through the double catch basin and is discharged to
an existing drainage channel to the west. This double catch basin needs to be
inspected and modified as necessary with a center separating wall to prevent
storm water from flowing straight through this double catch basin, thereby
bypassing the existing small detention basin. Add a note to the plans to this
effect.
22.Extend the existing inlet pipe from the double catch basin at least 20 feet north
into the existing small detention basin. This will allow the basin to be cleaned out
and excavated to create a longer flow path and more storage volume for
detention and stormwater treatment before flowing back to the existing outlet in
this detention basin.
