Project No.: 72189
November 11,2011
Page 4
Response: Curbing around the median island southeast of the roundabout has been labeled as precast
concrete curbing. (C-6)
Comment 15: The sidewalk needs to be extended to Ellington Road.Show the sidewalk going all
the way to Ellington Road with necessary grading and drainage. This can be built in
future phases but needs to be designed now.
Response: Sidewalk has been extended along the eastern shoulder of the Ellington Road access driveway,
connecting the CT Studios site and the bus turnout to Ellington Road.
Comment 16: There need to be sidewalks to the bus turnoff area south of the site and a concrete
pad at the curb in this area(at least 10 ft.x 5 ft.)for people to use when waiting for
and entering and exiting the bus.Why not provide another bus turnoff area on the
northern side of the site?
Response: Sidewalks have been extended through the bus turnoff to connect with the Ellington Road, the
remainder of the Site, and Chapel Road. The sidewalk has been designed as 10 feet wide in the
location of the bus turnoff to accommodate pedestrian drop off and pickup. The bus turnoff.
location was determined by the Town of South Windsor during a working-session meeting on
May 17,2011.
Comment 17: The road off Chapel Road should be crowned to the southern bend with two catch
basins added on the west side. One of these catch basins could be on the south side of
the bend and connect to Biofiltration Basin 1 to the east and to DMH-1 to the west.
Response: Stormwater runoff in this area is directed into a grassed Swale for treatment prior to
infiltration. As a safety measure against stormwater bypass,an additional curb inlet into the
swale has been added on the inside of the curve.
Comment 18: The slope along the road should be 1%or more in all places.
Response: Roadway slopes are 1%or steeper in all locations. Gutter slopes have been installed to be no
less than 0.75%.
Comment 19: There are many places where there are blind Tee taps of storm drainage pipes into
larger collector storm drainage pipes. This is not a good idea as these tees may
experience clogging and joint failure and they are not easily accessible for inspection
or maintenance. These should be eliminated by moving pipes and/or structures so
all connections are made at structures, and adding a few manholes or catch basins at
these connections if needed. The Engineer can call me to discuss this further.
