MARSHAL In accordance with Section 29-296 of the Connecticut General Statutes, the decision of the Office of the State Fire Marshal in this matter is: This modification request which seeks relief from the requirements of Part IV, Section 31-3.3.2 of the 2005 Connecticut State Fire Safety Code, as amended August 01, 2009 and October 02, 2012- to permit this existing non--classified wall finish, consisting of a softwood "Barn Board" wall material applied directly over wood studs (without the use a any substrate), to remain in this Existing Apartment Building is UNACCEPTABLE. The proposed use of an automatic fire alarm system, when conforming to the requirements of NFPA-72 for `Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems" with automatic fire detection installed inside the effected Dwelling Units at the entry door, and in the corridor and/or exit enclosure, and in the unoccupied Basement, along with occupant notification through out the building is not commensurate with the intent of the code requirements for equivalent for "Wall Finish Classification" for exit enclosures and/or corridors, required to be a minimum Class-B rating. This decision is also based that the "Barn Board" wall material is applied directly over the wood studs without the use of any substrate, and that the material is installed from floor to ceiling, along with that the raterial has a number of voids (holes) exposing the wall cavity. Additionally no practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship has been presented and the requirements is not adjudged unwarranted. Evaluated By: Jl,D Reviewed By: Joseph W.
