There were some questions as to why the onsite septic system was placed in its current location on the property. There are a few reasons that the system could be placed in the front yard only. First, the contours of the site only allow for a limited area in which the system can spread to allow for proper effluent distribution. When a system is placed perpendicular to contours, this can result in system failure due to uneven distribution. Secondly, separation distances for water lines, utility lines, and storm water drains must be met per the CT Public Health Code Technical Standards. The system meets all the required distances. Lastly, the front, side and rear yard setbacks only allow for a limited amount of space to put in this particular system, and also allow for a repair area should one be needed in the future. This system was submitted to our department as an engineered plan in June of 2015. The system's Permit to Discharge was approved on January 20, 2016 by this department. It is the conclusion of this department that the system was placed in the best possible location for the property without causing harm to life and health, and meeting all requirements of the CT PHC Technical Standards.
