In an attempt to better serve you, we have reviewed our files to ensure we have the most recent and accurate information possible. Our review has revealed that we do not have any information regarding how your residence receives its water. We are hopeful that you will take a moment to help us keep our records current. If you receive your water from a private well, please let us know the location as it relates to your home by providing two measurements from the foundation to the well in the space provided and let us know if the well is used for domestic, lawn and garden, or agricultural use. Our well, located in the front yard of our property has been in it's current location for at least 70 years and predates the Home built just to our north in the 70's or early 80's. Our concern as noted before, and in response to which your office has twice tested our well water for us, is that the septic system field of that home is within about 40 ft of our well. Codes at that time did not allow that kind of infringement. How it was allowed, I don't know,but it is still a concern to us as underground aquifers are, and can be very unpredictable. We continue to drink our well water,but we pay money for carbon filter replacements on a regular basis. The water has not been tested for several years now and we only hope that it is ok. We would appreciate some formal resolution of this problem. We still have documentation from several years back when we were dealing with the South Windsor sanitarian on this matter. Ammonia will combine with oxygen to form nitrate. This was not the case, but if the samples you collected showed the presence of ammonia it may indicate that the separation distance from the leaching field to the well were short enough that ammonia did not have the opportunity to be transformed to nitrate through nitrification. Based on the results you provided, the nitrate and nitrite levels are well below their MCLs and the ammonia is not detected;therefore the water quality results suggest there is no influence between the well and septic system. I provided a link to a USGS study that looked at the impact of shallow wells from septic leaching systems. 5/15/2014 Page 2of3 Given the close proximity between the well and septic system,the only way to confirm there is no influence between well and septic is to continue monitor of the well until such time a new well is drilled to meet horizontal separation distances required of the Public Health Code or if the house were to be connected to public water. | hope this is helpful. I was unable to find the Recommended Limits for Ammonia, but the other parameters tested for were within range. The good new is- I re-sampled on Monday, May 12th for bacteriological and got verbal confirmation today that the samples were absent for coliform and ecoli.
