RE: Drinking Water Sample Results
29 Clinton Drive,South Windsor
Dear Mr. Coleman:
Please find enclosed copies of the analytical results for the drinking water samples collected
from the above-referenced property. The samples were collected from the granular-activated
carbon(GAC) filtration system prior to treatment(well head and raw water) and after treatment
(after 1st GAC and after 2nd GAC). The water samples were collected by a Department of Energy
and Environmental Protection (DEEP) representative on fuly 13th, 2012 and were analyzed for
the presence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) at the Department of Public Health (DPH)
Laboratory using EPA test method 524.2 as the result of a historic release in 2007 from the home
heating fuel oil above ground storage tank at an adjacent property (see Table 1).
In the water samples that were collected, the following compounds were detected at the levels
indicated below:

A DEEP representative collected water samples from the granular-activated carbon (GAC)
filtration system prior to treatment (raw water) and after treatment (after 1st GAC and after 2nd
GAC) on March 26th, 2013. The water samples collected were analyzed for the presence of
Extractable Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (ETPH), hydrocarbon odor and Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs) at the DPH Laboratory using EPA test method 3520 for CT ETPH,CT SOP
for odor, and EPA test method 524.2 for VOCs (See Table 2).
In the water samples that were collected, the following compounds were detected at the levels
indicated below:

* Groundwater Protection Criteria (GWPC). Although there is no State drinking water action
level for ETPH per se, the reported concentration does not exceed the Department's GWPC
needed to clean up groundwater in areas where drinking wells are in use. The criterion is
currently 250 µg/L, (based on formal approval from DEEP to use Preliminary Draft 2008 RSRs
Revisions to the Groundwater Protection Criteria) and is a health risk based number. A
concentration with a "<" (less than) designation signifies that there may be a trace amount of
this compound in your well that is below the laboratory detection limit.
None of the reported concentrations of ETPH and VOCs for any of the water samples that were
collected were found to exceed applicable drinking water criteria or the State's Groundwater
Protection Criteria. Although a hydrocarbon odor was detected in the raw water sample, the
reported level (1) is within an acceptable range. Based on the results, pre and post filter samples
(after first and second GAC filter),your drinking water is potable. The filter system is operating
properly satisfactorily. The lab result sheets are attached.
If you have any further questions regarding these results, you may contact me at(860) 424-3796.
You may also contact the Connecticut DPH's Division of Environmental Epidemiology &
Occupational Health at (860) 509-7742 for additional information about the toxicity of specific
chemicals found in drinking water.
Sincerely,
MaryAnne Danyluk
