RE: Water Sampling Results for 496Miller Road, South Windsor, CT
Dear Mrs. Rodonis:
Enclosed please find a copy of the laboratory results for the raw(untreated)water sample that
was collected from your home on November 1, 2001. The sample was analyzed using EPA test
method 524.2 to identify the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
As the laboratory results indicate, the chemical compound trichloroethene was detected in the
water sample at a concentration of 61 micrograms per liter(ug/1). The Connecticut Department of
Public Health(DPH)has established the drinking water action level for trichloroethene at a
concentration of 5 ug/1. In addition,the chemical compounds 1,2-dichloropropane,
tetrachloroethene, methylene chloride, and 1,2,3-trichloropropane were detected in the water
sample at concentrations below the DPH drinking water action levels.
As you are aware; the Town of South Windsor has received State funding to extend public water
to the homes in your area that have been affected by ground water contamination. Abandonment
(permanent closure) of the polluted wells is a condition of the State funding. Based on these
results, it is required that your well be abandoned if State funds are used to connect your home to
the planned water main:
If you have any questions regarding the above, please call me at(860)-424-3782.
Sincerely,
Michael P. Senyk
