The water samples were analyzed for the presence of aromatic(fuel oil/gasoline compounds)and chlorinated(degreasing agents)volatile organic compounds(VOCs). The results for the water samples identified the presence of five chlorinated VOCs: -1,2-dichloropropane 2.0 parts per billion -tetrachloroethene 0.9 parts per billion -toluene <0.5 parts per billion 1,1,1-trichloroethane <0.5 parts per billion trichloroethene 34.0 parts per billion One of the reported VOCs trichloroethene, exceeded the respective drinking water action level that has been established by the Connecticut Department of Public Health's(DPH). The action level for trichloroethene in drinking water is 5 parts per billion. The action level for 1,2-dichloropropane is 5.0 parts per billion, see attached list of other State action levels. An action level is the concentration at or above which the DPH has determined there could be risk to the health of persons consuming the water. Based on the results, the water is not suitable for drinking purposes. Arrangements have been made by the DEP for the provision of bottled water and for the installation of a granular activated carbon(GAC)filter system, which will satisfactorily remove the pollutants in your well water. The DEP will maintain and monitor the filter system until such time a responsible party is found. The DEP will also be investigating potential sources of the pollution in the area.
