4.0 RECEPTOR ANALYSIS
Potential receptors of the impacted groundwater include private and public water supply wells
located in the study area. The Atlas of Public Water Supply Sources and Drainage Basins of
Connecticut(CTDEP, 1982)shows no public water-supply wells within a one-half mile radius
of the groundwater impact area. In addition, Mr. Robert Deptula, the South Windsor
Environmental Health Officer stated that no public water supply wells are located within a one-
half mile radius of the groundwater impact area.
Private potable water supply wells are located at many ofthe improved properties located within
the groundwater impact area because municipal water service was not available at the time these
homes were constructed. Presently, municipal water service is not available on Barber Hill
Road or on Miller Road from its intersection with Stonefield Trail to its intersection with Foster
Street Extension.
A well survey was conducted in order to determine the number and location of all improved
properties within the groundwater impact area that are not connected to municipal water service.
The underlying assumption of this survey is that all improved properties not currently serviced
by municipal water must contain private potable wells. The well survey consisted of the
following items:
A) Research at the South Windsor Assessor's Office was completed to determine the address
for each parcel located in the study area. Sixty-three properties were identified as being
located in the groundwater impact area.
B) A request was forwarded to the Connecticut Water Company for all clients located within
the address ranges for the streets in the groundwater impact area.
C) A windshield survey of the groundwater impact area was conducted to determine which
parcels contain improvements.
D) Fi ire 4, a map of improved properties not connected to municipal water service was
generated using information obtained from Items A through C above.
As Figure 4 illustrates, the following improved properties are located within the groundwater
impact area and are not listed as being connected to the municipal water service.
