Dear Mr. and Mrs . Genovese:
A sample of your drinking water was recently collected and
delivered to the State Health Department laboratory for analysis .
The enclosed analysis indicates that two parameters exceed State
Health Department guidelines. The recommended low PH level is
6 . 5 . As indicated, the PH of your water is 5 . 7 . Water of a
lower PH may act corrosive toward copper plumbing, thus imparting
a metallic taste to your water.
Secondly, the nitrate level of 12.5 mg/L in your water exceeds
the State guideline of 10 milligrams per liter. Excessive
nitrates may cause a disease known as methemoglobinemia in
infants under one year of age. Please consult your physician if
any users of the water are under one year of age or are pregnant.
If anyone in your home is in either of the above two categories
you will be eligible to receive bottled water from the State free
