Re: Bacteria Violation Update
Dear Residents,
I'm writing to provide you with an update of the bacteria violation that we have recently been
experiencing with our water system. During our routine water quality testing during the month of
October,E.Coli bacteria were found in the water sampled for testing. In accordance with the
State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, additional water samples were then taken and
retested.None of the additional samples indicated E.Coli bacteria, however Coliform bacteria
was detected. This required a public notice to be distributed to all residents, which was
distributed on 10/21/2010.
To address the problem, the wells and piping distribution system was disinfected with chlorine
on 10/21/20 10. Once the residual chlorine was no longer detected in the water system, the water
was sampled and tested again.
One initial water sample was taken on 11/1/2010 and tested negative for both E.Coli and
Coliform bacteria. Additional water samples were taken on 11/3/2010 and all tested negative for
both E.Coli and Coliform bacteria.
Based on the results of these tests, the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health no
longer requires the previously recommended precautionary measures for consumption(i.e.
boiling water or alternate water source). We will continue monthly monitoring of the water
quality and notify you if the problem returns.
We will also be scheduling flushing of the water mains to occur in the next 2-3 weeks. Routine
flushing is necessary to remove built up sediment in the piping. During this process, sediment in
the piping will be disturbed and you may briefly experience discolored water. If this occurs, let
the cold water run until it is clear.
Thank you all for your patience with this situation. If you have any questions, please call or
email me.
Sincerely,
James Senatro
