Aeschliman 1 , Aeschliman Land Survey O G 1 1379 Main Street East Hartford, Connecticut 06108 RE: Proposed Property of Giroux Construction Niederwerfer Road South Windsor, Connecticut Dear Mr. Aeschliman: This letter is to confirm that in January 2002 I examined the above referenced p cel for the presence of wetlands and watercourses as defined by Connecticut State Statutes. My investiga ions were conducted utilizing a spade and auger. Wetland boundaries were marked with numbered blue flagging in the field to be located by your firm. Areas delineated on site are associated with an.intermittent stream that is to the west of the property. Predominate soils within the delineated area are Wilbraham stony silt loams. Wilbraham stony silt loams are very deep (>65 inches)poorly drained soils that form in firm glacial till. They are nearly level to gently sloping soils in drainageways and low-lying positions on till covered uplands. The soils have a water table at or near the surface much of the year. If you should have any questions, please call this office at your convenience. Sincerely; Michael F. Gragnolati Registered Professional Soil Scientist 02-008 MICHAEL F. Aeschliman Aeschliman Land Survey 1379 Main Street East Hartford, Connecticut 06108 RE: Proposed Property of Giroux Construction Niederwerfer Road South Windsor, Connecticut Dear Mr. Aeschliman: As per your request I visited the above referenced site with the applicant and the South Windsor Sanitarian to determine if the elevation and duration of seasonal high water in the soils could be reduced by the use of curtain drains. Others performed engineering work to determine if the soils themselves are suitable for on site septic. Test pits were dug on site to determine the soil types within the area of the proposed septic system. Soils profiles were generally friable very fine sandy loams overlying a hardpan at depth of 17 to 24 inches. This is consistent with the well drained Narragansett soils that were mapped in the area as depicted in the "Soil Survey of Hartford County, Connecticut" as issued by the United States Department of Agriculture. The Narragansett as mapped in this soils survey are similar in properties to what is presently mapped as Wethersfield soils. These soils are very deep (>65 inches) well drained loamy soils that formed in dense glacial till on uplands. The soils are moderately deep to dense basal till which should be considered the limiting factor for septic systems as the soils are generally moderately permeable in the solum and slow or very slow in the dense substratum. This situation generally leads to a perched water table above the dense substratum. Soils on site exhibited evidence of a brief seasonal water table just above the dense substratum. It has been shown on other sites that if a curtain drain is placed upgradient of a septic leach field that the water that would normally flow over this hardpan from upgradient sources can be intercepted and diverted - around the leach field reducing or eliminated the perched water condition. I believe that due to the proposed septic systems position on the landscape, the nature of the soils previously described, and slope of the site that a curtain drain would be effective in reducing the seasonally perched water table If you should have any questions, please call this office at your convenience.
