Windsor 256-7954, 648-9079 Soil tests done with Bob Deptula, 644-2511 ex. 248, in March 2007 show no ledge, and mottling at 24", and perc. test rate of 30 minutes per inch. For a three bed- room house at this rate 750 sq. 'of leaching is required. MLSS = 168'=FF 1.5 x PF 2.9 x BF 56 (slope 2%) because of reverse grade, we will need to raise the sewer pipe through the side wall of the foundation to facilitate proper pitch and connect to the new 1000 gallon concrete tank. Then we will replace the existing downstairs toilet with an injector tank/toilet of which will also handle the sink drain. Plumb the new fixtures up and over into the new sewer line, (this drain will be visible up the bathroom wall and across the unfinished ceiling.). The leaching field requirements are strip topsoil, fill with select septic fill, lay two 102'rows of 48" by 34" by 12" standard infiltrators with 1 1/4" washed septic stone placed on top covered with 48" filter fabric to complete the field. Bottom of trenches no deeper than .5' into existing grade. Redistribute topsoil re- claimed during the stripping process. Bob rescinded the need for an engineer if a suit- able design can be submitted by a licensed installer. At the request of a licensed septic system installer, this Department met with said installer on 1118191 at 446 Niederwerfer Road, South Windsor for the purpose of observation pits and perco la t ion testing at the property. Also present was the property owner, Georgianne Killeen, as well as Ralph C. Miller and Anthony Damiano. No system fa i lure (ie: surfacing on the ground) was observed at this time. The inlet of the septic tank was exposed. The tank was approximately half full. It was reported that the tank had been pumped on 1114191. It was also reported to this Department that two septic tank cleaners had stated that when the tank was pumped, effluent from the leaching trenches flowed back into the septic tank. The installer exposed the distribution box which was not full at that time. Two pipes exited the box. The installer also exposed one area of leaching trench. The stone at the top of this trench was darkened indicating usage at this elevation. The subsoil at the distribution box and trench area was of poor quality. This may or may not be representative of the soil in the entire leaching area. An observation pit was dug to the rear of the property, approximately 120 feet from the house. The soil in this pit appeared capable of accepting a septic system. When this system fails, additional observation pits and percolation testing will be required before a repair can be initiated. An engineered design and/or an elevated system may or may not be required depending on the results of the above activities. Very truly yours, t Robert DeprLf7a, RS Environmental Health Officer RD:jh
