Town Hall, 1540 Sullivan Ave. South Windsor, Connecticut 06074 Re: Approval of Plans for Subsurface Sewage Disposal System for Health and Fitness Center on the Property of Peter Churilo, Route 5 Dear Mr. Deptula: We have reviewed revised plans for the subsurface sewage disposal system for a proposed Health and Fitness Center on the property of Peter Churilo, Route 5, South Windsor. The plans were prepared by Fuss & O'Neill, Consulting Engineers, and were submitted to this office for approval pursuant to Section 19-13-B103d(c) . The plans bear a revision date of January, 1983. These plans were found to be satisfactory and in accordance with the requirements of the Public Health Code. They are hereby APPROVED by this office. It is also recommended that the plans be approved by the Director of Health of South Windsor. If you have any questions, or if you feel that there should be some changes, please contact us. South Windsor Health Department Town Hall South`Windsor, Connect' cut 06074 Dear Mr. Deptula: - We have reviewed plans for the subsurface sewage disposal system for a proposed Active Woman Health & Fitness Center on the property of Peter Churilo, Route 5, South Windsor. The plans were prepared by Fuss & O'Neill, Consulting Engineers, and were submitted to this office pursuant to Section 19-13-B103d of the Public Health Code. The site appears to be well suited for subsurface sewage disposal purposes, and the plans are generally satisfactory. However, we do have certain comments and recommendations for modifications to further assure a satisfactory system. 1. It is recommended that the septic tank be moved back closer to the building served. It should be located between the reserve area and the building, and should be raised in elevation as much as possible. If the tank were located 15 feet from the building, as allowed by the Code, the tank could be raised about 1 foot in elevation, while still maintaing a one percent slope from the building to the tank. A flatter sewer grade could be used between the tank and the leaching system, since all of the settable solids would be removed in the septic tank, eliminating the possibility of settlement in the sewer pipe. 2. If the septic tank were relocated as described above, it would be possible to raise the elevations of the galleries. This would be desirable, since they are proposed to be installed quite deep. It should also be noted that the slope of the sewer from the distribution box to the individual galleries could also be quite flat, so that the galleries could be kept at approximately the same elevation. 3. The proposed leaching system appears to be rather large for the anticipated use. I do not feel that it would be necessary to connect the ends of the galleries with additional gallery units. I would recommend instead that five, fifty-six foot long galleries, each containing fourteen units, be used. The ends of the galleries could be connected by a solid sewer pipe. Such an arrangement would simplify construction and provide ample leaching area. 8aa 66-2195 Phone: 79 Elm Street • Hartford, Connecticut 06115 An Halal (lnnnrtimity Fmnlnver Robert Deptula, R.S. December 28, 1982 4. The plans do not indicate the source of water supply, but it is understood that public water supply mains are available, and it is assumed that they will be used. If this is the case, we have no particular concern about the relatively rapid percolation rate which was obtained on the site, and no special consideration need be given to this in the design. If you are in agreement with the above, it is recommended that the plans be modified and resubmitted. If you have any questions or if we may be of any assistance, please feel free to contact us. The Brave Bull building will be split to reduce the size of the Brave Bull Cafe to a seating capacity of 130 persons (from 430) . The area subtracted from the cafe will be divided into at most three retail store areas with approximately 3 employees per store at a design rate of 20 gpd/capita. Each store will have separate sanitary facilities with a design loading of 180 gpd total for all new facilities. The facilities will not generally be available for public use. As shown on the plans provided to you, the three bathrooms will be connected by interior plumbing. One 4 inch cast iron pipe will exit the back of the building and connect into an existing 4 inch C. I.P. pipe discharging to a 1250 gallon septic tank. Based on information contained within your files and conversations with the property owner, Mr. Peter Churilo, this system is adequate to handle the proposed additional flow. Since the seating capacity of the Brave Bull is being reduced by some 300 persons and an average of nine persons will be added to the system, the two existing leaching fields should adequately handle this flow. 210 MAIN STREET / MANCHESTER, CONN. 06040 / TELEPHONE (203)646-2469 SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT•WASTE WATER SYSTEMS•EROSION CONTROL•WATER SYSTEMS•HYDROLOGY and DRAINAGE SYSTEMS•SITE PLANNING HIGHWAYS and BRIDGES•SURVEYING•LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE•TRANSPORTATION and TRAFFIC•PUBLIC WORKS MANAGEMENT•HYDROGEOLOGY FUSSgaNEILL Mr. Robert Deptula Page 2 January 21, 1983 In a related job, the proposed septic system for 59 John Fitch Boulevard, also owned by Peter Churilo, has been modified to have heavy duty (H-20 loading) galleries in the fields instead of standard duty (H-10 loading) galleries. This is in the event that this area becomes paved in the future. You indicated this would cause no problems and would not require additional changes to the system.
