Sample Number: 40143 Mark: water sample collected 3/11/98 by Tim Plozj from Lot No. 7959 Chapel Rd. , S. Windsor, Ct Results, mg/L MCL, mg/L Odor none no MCL Turbidity 50 no MCL Color 50 no MCL pH 8.58 no MCL Nitrite Nitrogen < 0.001 1.0 Nitrate Nitrogen { 1 .00 10.0 Chloride (as Cl ) 3B 250 Hardness (as CaCO3) 72 no MCL Iran (as Fe) 1.47 no MCL Mangenese 0.01 no MCL Sodiu m 64.8 no MCL Sulfate 32 no MCL BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION Number of Coliform Bacteria per 100 mLs (membrane filter) 0 0 All parameters analyzed are below Maximum Contamination Levels (MCL°s) for potable water. The turbidity, color and contents are very high. If after regular use of this e parameters do not lower, treatment may be neces The sodium content is above the recommended 28 m LL lin) or people on low salt diets. If there are any P ians would be pleased to discuss them with you. 1 g 199 w MAR Very truly yours, -- - -- - -- Env-iraTech-Laboratory S EENNG.DEPT V fe o 6 Maryellen DiLuzia PH0464 cc: one enclosed PHYSICAL PARAMETERS ODOR; MCL = none, recommended << 2 - Scale 0 = none, 1 = very faint, 2 = faint, 3 = distinct. 4 = decided, 5 = stronq. Good well water should be free of odor. TURBIDITY; MCL = none, recommended < 5 - A measure of particles in; the water, usually indicates iron. PH; MCL = none, recommended 6.4 - 10.0 - pH ranges from 0 - 14. A pH of 7 is neutral , < 7-is acidic, 3 7 is basic. A pH less than 6.4 is considered acidic and may be corrosive to piping. COLOR; MCL = none, recommended < 15 - High color usually i indicates the presence of iron. INORGANIC PARAMETERS NIRITE NITROGEN; MCL 1.0 mq/L - An intermediate breakdown product of_ organic matter. See nitrate comment. NITRATE NITROGEN; MCL 10.0 mq/L - The final completely oxidized staq-e of nitroqen. Levels above 10 are kn6Wn to be harmfu`i•'to infants. Preqnant/nursinq mothers and parents of infants should consult with a physican. CHLORIDE; MCL 250 mq/L-.- The non-metallic portion of common salt. Levels above 50 mq/L may indicate undesirably . high sodium levels and it also may appreciably increase corrosion rates. Levels above 250 mq/L inpart ' a salty taste noticeable to most people, . HARDNESS; MCL none - A measure of the total ;calcium and magnesium in water. Waters over 100 mq/L are described as hard and levels over 250 mq/L are considered very hard. The effect of hardness is to increase .the airmcunt of soap necessary to form suds with water. Hiqh --levels may also increase sca-linq on the inside of water pipes. , IRON; MCL none - Above 0.3 mq/L iron may cause staininq to laundry and fixtures. Iron is naturally occurring water mineral due to the geology of the area, MANGENESE; MCL none - Above 0.05 mq/L mangense may cause staininq to laundry and fixtures. See.;iron comment SULFATE; MCL none - A naturally occurinq substance in water, levels above 250 mg/L may inpart a bitter taste and render a laxative effect. Vi SODIUM; MCL none -•_A notification level of- 28 mq/L has been established; for ;peclple on low salt diets, high levels may_•incr.ease the corrosive, effect.- ORGANIC CHEMICALS VOLATILE ORGANIC CHEMICALS` (VOC) - see report for a listinq .. of the individual chemical MCL. VOC's are a qas chrry- matograp'hic scan of 58 compounds. This list was deL.t ,• ' -- _-termined-by--tare-Conn-eticut-State-Department--off Health. -- ----- - ----- These compounds include some of the more commonly fo filt{''` ground water contaminates.
