GALLIGAN Town Manager January 22, 1998 , Ms.Jennifer Hedges 36 Henry Road South Windsor,CT 06074 Dear Ms. Hedges: Your letter to the Town Council has been referred for my review concerning your road and some of the questions that you have asked regarding the paving of streets in South Windsor. The Town Council will very shortly be putting together a Capital Plan that tries to estimate the streets that will need paving, as well as other various projects and how they get funded. The Town Council will be looking at this particular plan and budget this April. As you have displayed an interest in Town Government, you may want to come before the Town Council to discuss your particular road and why you think it needs to be paved. I will send a copy of your letter to Michael Gantick, Director of Public Works and ask him to send someone out to see what has to be done on Henry Road, how much it would cost, and access if there any safety issues on your street that take priority over other streets in Town. In the past, the Town has prioritized the paving of streets in order to keep our taxes low. We will look at your particular problem to see how it fits into our priority listing. Henry Road, like all other streets in Town, will be discussed at budget time, and I will let you know when these discussions are to take place so that you may partake in them. I thank you for your letter and I find it very encouraging that a young individual is becoming involved in the community. I hope you will continue to be involved as we like to hear from the young adults of South Windsor. Very truly yours, -F l j Matthew B. I am writing this letter to you about repaving streets in South Windsor. I have gathered some information on this issue already. I understand that it takes a lot of time and money to repave the streets in the spring. I understand that there are some difficulties with unpaved roads. Some roads have become very dangerous, and we need them paved now. I am especially interested in getting my street paved. First, our neighborhood has gone to the Town Council and have talked about this issue. But the council turned us down. For the most part, my street is made of packed down gravel. It has become very dangerous. Second, most of the kids in our neighborhood walk or ride their bikes to Eli Terry Elementary School. There is a path that leads off of Brook Street to Eli Terry School. It is very dangerous -if you happen to fall on the gravel. You can get hurt more severely than you can on a paved road. I know this for a fact._ I was riding my bike and I fell. I scarred my knee up and almost damaged my bone. Third, in the winter, when it gets icy it is dangerous because cars can skid off the road and get into an accident. This is very important for the safety of people who live in our neighborhood. I am especially interested in any information about: - Future projects involving repaving streets in town. - What has to be done in order for my street to be paved? - How much money it would cost based on the length of the street? - When it would be done? - u^`x'♦• vw we make sure your street wi1l get paved? ++v can aa - Safety issues before and after the repaving.
