RE: Sand Hill Road Sidewalks
Dear Mr. Doolittle,
As lifelong residents of South Windsor, we feel strongly about the proposed changes to
lower Sand Hill Road. We have resided at 2 Collins Lane for 63 years and disagree
with the plan to put a sidewalk on the north side of Sand Hill Road.
Over the years, we have witnessed numerous traffic accidents involving cars sliding
down Sand Hill Road into the intersection of Sullivan Avenue and the north corner of
Sand Hill Road precisely where the proposed sidewalks are to be built. Certainly, you
have records and have investigated the safety issues related to this location. As a
matter of fact, if you look today(11 27-09) at this location you will see the evidence (tire
ruts and dented guard rail) of cars going off the road and into the open grassy area.
Had a bicyclist or pedestrian been riding or walking along this-proposed route, their life
would have been at risk.
We understand that the State of Connecticut will never put sidewalks on Sullivan
Avenue at the intersection of Sand Hill Road. Why would you build a sidewalk, at tax
payers' expense, that leads to nowhere; not to a parking lot nor a shopping area?
At this time we would like to state that we oppose the construction of a sidewalk and the
alteration of our property at 2 Collins Lane.
Sincerely,
David B. Collins ,
