CONN.A6074 AREA CODE 203/644.25U April 12, 1996 Mr. and Mrs. Bruce MacLean 172 Fairview Drive South Windsor, CT 06074 Dear Mr. and Mrs. MacLean: The Town of South Windsor does not routinely replace mailboxes and posts knocked down by snow, but does in certain cases, as a courtesy, repair and reset mailboxes damaged by plowing operations. Mailboxes and posts have been replaced when it is found that the plow has actually struck the mailbox or post with the plow. Our replacement costs are: One Standard Mailbox $ 4.85 One 4 x 4 post with'L" member 19.75 Installation 10.00 $34.66 Because this happened back in December, I am unable to investigate the circumstances. Rich does remember your call so I am recommending we send you reimbursement at our costs, $35.60. Very truly yours, t r Melvin C. Stead, Jr. Superintendent of Street Services MCS/gh cc: Finance Dept. April 9, 1996 Mr. Melvin Stead, Jr. 157 Burgess Road South Windsor, CT. 06074 Dear Mr. Stead, on December 12, 1995, I spoke with one of your associates, Rich, who indicated that I should write to you at this time, in regards to obtaining some kind of compensation for a post and mailbox that was toppled over by one of the town plow trucks during one of the snowstorms in early December. Because we were not interested in getting a replacement post and mailbox that the town might provide, I was told that we could buy our own and the town would reimburse us for whatever they felt was a reasonable compensation. Therefore, I am enclosing the bills for the post and mailbox that we purchased and have subsequently installed, and look forward to your response. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. Sincerely, ruce and Barbara MacLean 172 Fairview Drive South Windsor, CT. 06074 644-9228 . Encs. S r iq, MEMORANDUM TO: Members of the South Windsor Town Council FROM: Terry V. Thomas Dennis Melvin Stead, Acting Director ofPublic Works E'`' MEMORANDUM January 29, 1976 To: Terry V. Sprenkel , Re: Fairview Drive Acceptance As you may recall, an agreement was made between the Town and U & R Housing to hold off overlaying Fairview Drive until the. Town had installed the sanitary sewers. Soon after installation, the sewer contractor did, in fact, overlay Fairview Drive, and U&R did, in fact, pay the cost of the overlay. However, the sewer line stops approximately 150 feet short of the total length of Fairview. Drive. Therefore, the sewer contractor., not knowing of the Town's agreement with U&R, failed to pave the entire length of Fairview Drive. I must now recommend that we not accept Fairview Drive until a satisfactory arrangement can be made with U&R to complete the paving of this road. Melvin C. Stead, Jr. MCS:prb cc: L. A. Braddock J. E.
