AN INTERNATIONAL NON - PROFIT ORGANIZATION OF PROFESSIONAL CRAFTSMEN THE Ja67- 0 Ito ylecxnfeceaw-4 e-yet a 00 CONNECTICUT CHAPTER April 20th, 1977 South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals South Windsor, Connecticut To Whom It May Conce rn: I write this letter at the request of Christopher S Robinson, Craftsman member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Piano Technician's Guild, in good standing. He has asked me to express my views on two matters of concern to him. First, there can be little question that a person engaged in the trade of Piano Tuning and Repair would be en- ga ge d in other than a "Home occupation". This customary home occupation is as typical to a piano technician as it is to a dressmaker, doctor, engineer, artist, or insurance agent. Ninty percent of the membership of the Piano 166 niciant s Guild work from their own homes, with the balance doing business with piano dealerships. Second it is quite usual and reasonable for a piano technician In a residence area to use an atd6ssory building in connection with the continuance of his occupation The technician is able to do larger repairs not possible in the custome rt s home in this manner. I cannot think of an instance where the re s ide ntia 1 character of a neighborhood has been disturbed by the normal continuance of these activities. In most cases, visible evidence of commercial activity is completely absent. It is my hope that you will approve Mr. Robins on t s application for a Use -Variance on his property in connection with his home occupation. Thank You. Robinson 183 Oak Street Manchester, Conn. 06040 Dear Mr. Robinbeo: Your application to the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals will be heard at a Public Hearing on Thursday, May 50 19779 aut8 P.m. , in the Council Chambers of the South Windsor Town Hall. You or someone representing you must be present. Enclosed is a receipt for the application fee of $30. 'fiery truly yours, Richard H. Eriksson, Chairmik Zoning Board of Appeals RIFE:bck Enclosure TO THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS SOUTH WI NDSOR, CONNECTICUT To Whom It May Concern: My prospective neighbor, Christopher S. Robinson, has asked me to sign this letter supporting his request for permission to engage in piano repair work in his un- attached garage, While the largest portion of his piano tuning business is performed in the homes of his clientele, structural repairs to pianos must be performed in another location. He has assured me that he is not requesting to run a "commercial" operation. No sign will be erected, no customers come to call, no equipment is stored in the yard, and no other c omme rc is 1-type nuisances exist. Mr. Robinson has assured me that his business is largely by reference, not by street trade; that there is no danger of the residential character of the neighborhood being dis- turbed . It is my opinion that I would not find the above described use objectionable . Richard LaPorte date Charles Mannin Leonard McFarland Peter Martino 206 Long Hill Rd. So. Windsor, Ct. 06074 April 26, 1977 Dear Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Robinson, As your prospective neighbor and, having received your letter, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your piano business to the house next to mine. If all goes well on May 5, you may add my piano to your list of maintenance accounts. Good luck at the hearing and, if you wish, you may use this letter as testimony from at least one neighbor (your closest, in fact) giving full approval, in fact, welcome to your proposed relocation.
