November 5 , 1970 Zoning Board of Appeals South Windsor , Connecticut Gentlemen: As I am unable to attend this evening's meeting, I would like this letter to serve as my formal objection to all sign variances requested . I feel that the standards set for the placement of signs should be followed . Larger signs or signs placed closer to the roads are distracting to the driver and a traffic hazard , as well as giving an unpleasing appear- ance to the area. If it is felt that the guidelines we currently have are inadequate , then we should take steps to change the guidelines rather than give variances . The lighting of the sign is to be placed in such a manner as to avoid objectionable and hazardous glare off the premises• The location of the building is far enough off Route 5 that, the need for a sign to identify their location is necessary.
