Please respond to the following:
Drawing P101, Key Note #21 indicates a sump pump in the elevator pit. At the project
meeting on July 22, 2002, Mr. John Collins, Chief Building Official, Town of South Windsor,
noted that discharging water from the elevator pit into the sanitary sewer system would
not be permitted due to the potential contamination by hydraulic oil. I have spoken with
Thomas Longhi of Otis Elevator and he stated that sump pumps are no longer required in
elevator pits by code. Please advise on how best to comply with the Town's requirement
that the elevator pit not discharge into the sanitary waste system.

Response: Date 8/1/02
Engineer's response:
Per the latest Connecticut State Elevator Code, a sump pump is no longer
required to be installed within elevator pits. The 1-1/2"pipe from the
elevator to the 4"sanitary line should be deleted.
