The following abbreviated version of the specifications have been included as part of the Minimal Impact Application to provide the Town of South Windsor a general understanding of the work to be conducted within the upland review area associated with an adjacent wetlands (Farm Brook). PROJECT SPECIFIATIONS (Abbreviated): 1. Prior to any intrusive site work, the Contractor will install hay bales and silt fence along the curb beginning at RW-4/SB-6 and terminating behind the station building. The Contractor must maintain the integrity of the hay bales and silt fence for the duration of the project. Prior to the initiation of saw cutting activities, GES will issue a Hot Work Permit. The permit will be valid only for an applicable day and shift. The Contractor is required to supply the air monitoring equipment to ensure compliance with the permit. In paved areas, all existing paving must be first saw-cut prior to excavation. The Contractor should assume that the existing asphalt surfaced areas consist of four to six inches of asphalt. The Contractor is responsible for the disposal of asphalt, concrete, and all other construction debris. 2. Using mechanical equipment (e.g. an excavator bucket), the Contractor shall remove all asphalt and concrete within the previously saw cut area. Asphalt and concrete shall be stockpiled for disposal by the Contractor. Due to site constraints, the Contractor must remove the asphalt and concrete debris within 24 hours of generation. The Contractor shall minimize the production of excessive dust during the work. If deemed necessary by the on-site GES supervisor, the Contractor will wet the work area with water to minimize dust. Using soft dig methods (i.e., vac truck, hand digging), the Contractor shall expose the product piping, UST sumps, and vent lines. While exercising caution when handling the piping runs to minimize the release of fluids to the environment, the Contractor will cut and cap the single wall fiberglass product lines in close proximity to the dispenser's drive mat. '`''`' 3. Using soft dig methods (i.e., vac truck, hand digging), the Contractor shall expose the top of the USTs. The Contractor shall plug all tank openings (with the exception of the vent stacks). The Contractor shall use man-lifts to access the USTs once unearthed. Walking on top of the USTs is not permitted. The GES supervisor will screen soils during the excavation. The threshold screening value will be 50 ppm. The Contractor will be required to segregate the impacted soil (PID > 50 pm) from the clean soils. GES has pre-characterized the soil and will contract with the Ted Ondrick Company of Chicopee, MA. The Contractor will provide the labor and equipment for the live loading process. All soil piles on-site (clean fill, non-impacted soils, etc.) must be covered with 6-mil (minimum)poly plastic sheeting. Proper covering of the piles must be maintained by the Contractor during the duration of the project. 4. The Contractor shall excavate soil from around the UST sufficient to allow removal of the USTs intact. The USTs will be set in a pre-determined location on-site for inspection. After inspection and prior to off-site disposal, the Contractor will cut three 12- inch diameter holes cut into each of the USTs and will then label each UST with the following text: "TANK HAS CONTAINED FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AND/OR PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS. NOT GAS FREE, NOT SUITABLE FOR FOOD OR DRINKING WATER". Steel USTs must be transported such that the three 12-inch diameter holes are facing upright. The Contractor will be responsible for the transport and proper disposal of the USTs. 5. In accordance with the shoring plan that was prepared by the Contractor's Professional Engineer, the Contractor will excavate soil to approximately 15 feet below grade within the area identified on the Figure 2. The Contractor will be responsible for replacing the storm water conveyance system within the excavated area. 6. Following the excavation, all backfilling operations must commence as the excavation cannot remain open overnight when deeper than four feet below grade. The Contractor will use 4-inch minus stone as backfill material from the bottom of the excavation to five feet below grade. A woven geo-synthetic fabric will be placed on top of the stone by the Contractor to prevent migration of fines into the underlying stone layer. Construction fill material (2-inch minus) will be installed on top of the geo-textile fabric and compacted in one-foot lifts using acceptable compaction equipment (i.e., vibratory plate compactor) to achieve 95% standard proctor density. 7. The depth to water in the vicinity of the proposed excavation area is approximately 1 lft bgs. As such, GES does not anticipate that dewatering will be required during the UST removal. However, dewatering during the soil excavation portion of the project is required. As a temporary groundwater treatment system exists at the site, GES will supply one 21,000 gallon frac tank for use by the Contractor. The Contractor is required to supply any pumps and hoses to pump the groundwater from the excavation and transport it to the frac tank. GES will provide for the treatment and disposal of the containerized groundwater. u ACPjA,,E a oR MAP SCALE 1 " - 50'0 ZONE X 250 0 5W 100E i' '99,y ay o PANEi GOOSE_ Farm FIRM BrookINSURANCE RATE MAP . 9 "'O'caN ; ° FLOOD INSU G a TOWN OF fi IMITDETAILED °F srua SOUTH WINDS©R,; s ZONE X 6 Q Dam ° DErAlSTUDYj r, ' I; aRn ROAD ` 5 9 ?
