HANDLING PLAN FOR THE CHT
ENCLOSURE DUNNAGE ' WALL
Rev. B
OS-03-18
2s]smm
g2Po 8.5.,
zrr'!m
Introduction and Plan Summary
Once the 4 CHT enclosure walls have been installed onto the power plant, the 30' x 8'
dunnage wall is still attached to the wall set transfer cart. What to do with it? it is not
economically viable to return it to CHT as being done for the 413ack base.
The wall could be cut up into small pieces and placed into the recycle hopper being added
to one of the FarmTek shelters for other carbon steel waste.
Issues: laying the 700 lb. wall down safely
cutting up the wall (saw, grind, shear, or flame cut) quietly and safely
a "jaws of life" mobile shearing tool was quoted at $18K
lifting the pieces into the hopper safely
After review, it was concluded that it would be safer to leave the dunnage wall intact and
still vertical for transfer to the recycler (G&S Scrap on Nutmeg Rd.'). To eliminate the need
to handle individual walls, the walls (around 6) will be secured into a rack with fork truck
provisions. The rack will be lifted onto a flatbed in one lift for the trip to G&S.
The dunnage walls are unpainted carbon steel and concerns were, raised about the
possible leaching of iron oxide into the adjacent wet lands. Tarping was deemed
inadequate. A covered shed will be added to the north side of the Bidwell parking lot to
keep the dunnage walls / rack under roof.
Planned Handling Steps
1. Roll wall set transfer cart with empty dunnage wall out of cell 9.
2. Lift dunnage wall off cart utilizing a fork truck. Keep vertical.
3. Move the wall to a new storage shed located on the north edge of
the Bidwell parking lot
4. Place the dunnage wall on the PMT91178 Dunnage'; Wall Storage
Rack. Keep vertical.
5. Secure the wall to the rack.
6. Continue placing additional dunnage walls on the rack and securing
until the rack if full.
7. Call for a delivery flatbed trailer (Use 3PL flatbed trailer or arrange
other).
8. Lift the full PMT91178 rack onto the flatbed trailer and secure.
9. Deliver the rack to G&S recycling.
10. G&S empties the rack
11. Return rack to the storage shed.
Locate Shed North of 90 Bidwell High
Bay on edge of parking lot
