A review of our files shows that ownership of this property changed in 2014. Please be aware that the permit issued in 2003 was only valid for the property owner/applicant at that time. If you are currently using the space as an in-law apartment, or would like to in the future, please complete the attached permit application and include a drawing showing any changes to the apartment space. If there has been no change to the space, then the previously submitted drawing will be sufficient. You can return the application to the Planning Department,South Windsor Town Hall, 1540 Sullivan Avenue, South Windsor, CT 06074. Please remember that an in-law apartment is for a family member or relative only, and that you as the property owner must reside in either the main dwelling or the apartment. If you are not using the space as an in-law apartment, please send me a letter indicating that, and verifying that the space has been converted back to living space for the single-family dwelling. It should be noted that currently the Town Assessor's property card for this property reflects an in- law apartment, which does impact the assessment on the property. I have included a copy of the original permit application and approval for your information. Please contact me at (860) 644-2511, ext. 251 with any questions you may have. Thank you for your assistance in updating both the Planning department and Assessor's files. Sincerely, Pamela A. In that letter, you stated that the in-law space was not being used, and that the space had been converted back to single-family living. You also requested that the Town Assessor adjust the property card to reflect a single family home. The Assessor went out to your property on Thursday, May 24, 2018,. He was not allowed into the in-law apartment by the people living in it, but he could clearly see the kitchen was still in existence. Based on this, there will be no change to the assessment of your property, and the use of the apartment will have to be brought into compliance with the issuance of a new permit in your name. Please be advised that in-law apartments are permitted for family members only. Please provide the appropriate documentation of the family member residing in the residence with your permit request. If this is not being used as an in-law apartment in compliance with the Town zoning regulations, you must cease the rental of the space, and remove the kitchen by June 30, 2018 to avoid enforcement action by this office.
