Assistant Director of Public Works/Town Engineer Town of South Windsor 1540 Sullivan Avenue South Windsor, CT 06074 Subject: Proposed Improvements—Skillcraft Machine Tool Co.—255 Nutmeg Road South Dear Mr.Jeffrey Doolittle, P.E.: Denno Land Surveying has prepared plans proposing improvements to the commercial property at 255 Nutmeg Road South. These improvements include the modification of the existing parking lot area. This modification has resulted in an increase in total impervious surface area by 1783 square feet or 0.04 acres. These proposed improvements utilize the existing on-site drainage system consisting of catch basins, pipes, and outlet controls. Denno Land Surveying has verified that the existing drainage system is appropriately sized to handle this increase in impervious area. May 14, 2018, Denno Land Surveying performed a field visit assessing existing drainage conditions on site. At the time of the field inspection, no apparent drainage issues such as ponding or erosion were discovered. Photos attached. HydroCAD version 8.00 was utilized to model the existing drainage system pre and post construction by following the Rational Method. This HydroCAD model referenced Press Services Drainage Calculations performed by Borghesi dated October 15, 1990 (received by South Windsor P&Z). There are two locations where pre-post calculations were analyzed: EXPIPE#4 and EXPIPE#6. EXPIPE#4(cfs) EXPIPE#6(ds) Storm Pre Post Pre Post 2 2.9 3.0 2.2 2.2 10 4.4 4.6 2.1 2.1 25 1 5.4 5.5 2.1 2.1 100 1 5.5 1 5.6 2.1 2.1 Mr. Jeffrey Doolittle, P.E. May 14, 2018 Page 2 The added impervious area has a minor impact on the site's drainage. EXPIPE#4 shows approximately 0.1 cfs increase while there is no increase in discharge at EXPIPE#6. This is due to the current configuration of this pipe being back pitched, thus limiting the amount of runoff it can release. A backflow analysis was also completed that demonstrates the impact of a 100-year storm on the system. This analysis determined that all runoff from a 100-year storm can be contained within the drainage system as currently configured. In our professional opinion the existing drainage system is adequately sized to handle the additional impervious areas proposed. All back-up computations and sketches are attached for your review.
