Re: Rooster
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Kurtzman;
It has come to my attention that you are keeping a rooster on your
property at 97 West Road. A review of Town records shows that your
property is .59 of an acre in size.
The Town of South Windsor, in Section 7.12 of the Zoning Regulations,
requires a permit be issued for home animal agriculture activities. These
regulations require a minimum of 1 acre to issue such a permit. In 2012,
the Planning & Zoning.Commission (PZC) adopted a policy that for lots
smaller than one acre, a homeowner would be allowed to have no more
than four (4) chickens without the need for a permit. This policy was
developed in response to homeowners who wanted the ability to have
fresh eggs, and did not include roosters. The understanding was that if the
Town received complaints, the homeowner would have to remove the
animals.
Please remove the rooster from your property immediately to avoid
enforcement action by this office. If you have any questions, you can
contact me at (860) 644-2511, extension 251 . Thank you for your prompt
attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Pamela A. Oliva; CZEO
