Re: Application 12-37Z; In-Law Apartment
Dear Mr. Westbrook:
Attached please find a copy of your approved zoning permit for an in-law
apartment to be built at 11 Mountain View Road. The South Windsor Zoning
Regulations stipulate that an in-law apartment be occupied by a family member
or relative only. In addition, the regulations also require that once the in-law
apartment is no longer occupied by a family member or relative, it cannot be
considered a second dwelling unit. Instead, you will be required to remove the
kitchen and convert the living area into additional living space for the main
dwelling.
This permit is valid for five (5) years, and will expire on May 3, 2017. If the use
as an in-law apartment is to be continued, you will have to renew this permit.
This will be done through a letter from the Town Planning Department,
requesting reaffirmation of occupancy of the in-law apartment by a family
member or relative.
Any new building or alterations/additions to existing buildings will require a
building permit prior to the start of construction. If you have any questions,
please call me at (860) 644-2511, extension 251.

ac

Thank you for your letter of June 15, 2017 requesting a renewal of your in-

the following conditions:
l . This approval is for an in-law apartment for a family

removed and the living area must be converted into other living

2. This permit will expire in five (5) years, on May 3, 2022, and will have
to be renewed at that time if the use is to be continued. Owner(s)

unit.
