Re: Chickens and peacocks
Dear Mr. Breen;
I have received a complaint regarding a number of chickens and
peacocks that you are keeping on your property at 479 Pleasant Valley
Road. Please be advised that the Town of South Windsor, in Section 7.12
of the Zoning Regulations, requires a permit be issued for home animal
agriculture activities. I have enclosed an application form for your use, as
well as a copy of the relevant regulations. As there are floodplains on
your property, you may have to obtain approval from the Inland Wetlands
Commission for any structures related to the keeping of the animals.
The nature of the complaint is that some of your animals are frequently
crossing Pleasant Valley Road and roaming other properties. The
regulations specify that the animals be kept in a manner that does not
impact the environmental quality of the neighborhood. Please take
steps immediately to ensure that your animals do not leave your property,
and demonstrate how you are accomplishing that in your permit
application.
It appears that you have also erected signs on Town property at the
intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Hilton Drive. Please be aware
that it is illegal to attach any unauthorized sign to a traffic control sign,
regulatory sign or utility pole. The Town zoning regulations do not allow
such signage, so please remove the signs Immediately.
If you have any questions, you can contact me at (860) 644-2511,
extension 251. Please submit your application by May 8, 2017 to avoid
potential enforcement action by this office. Thank you for your prompt
attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
