' Storm Drainage Computations Steven & Elizabeth Wisneski ' Tall Oaks Acres 2995 & 2999 Ellington Road ' South Windsor, Connecticut 1 1 1 b Prepared : P Y ' Design Professionals, Inc. 21 Jeffrey Drive, PO Box 1167 ' South Windsor, CT 06074 WWI November 17, 2015 ' Table of Contents ' Section Pa Lye Introduction 1 ' Pre-Development Conditions 1 Post-Development Conditions 1 Analysis of Results 2 ' Water Quality 2 Conclusion 2 Appendices A Watershed Computations (Pre-Development Conditions) B Watershed Computations(Post-Development Conditions) ' C Design Criteria D Drainage Area Maps Existing Conditions(DA-1) ' Proposed Conditions(DA-2) 1. Introduction Steven and Elizabeth Wisneski are proposing to develop a 3.50 acre parcel of land located on Ellington Road in South Windsor, Connecticut. The proposed work will ' disturb approximately 76,750 SF of the parcel, 1,674 SF of which has been classified as wetlands. The proposed development will include construction of two four bedroom single family homes with an associated shared paved driveway, subsurface utilities, and ' landscaping for wetland mitigation. Refer to the site plan drawings, entitled—"Tall Oaks Acres, 2995 &2999 Ellington Road, South Windsor, Connecticut, prepared by Design Professionals, Inc, dated November 17, 2015", as amended, for information regarding the ' proposed property development. 2. Pre vs Post Development Comparisons ' The surficial characteristics of the site can primarily be classified as woodlands. The entire site drains west to east across the parcel to the existing wetlands. Refer to the ' Existing Conditions Drainage Area Map included in Appendix D for watershed delineations. In order to establish a hydrologic comparison between pre- and post-development conditions, an evaluation was performed to quantify the peak volume of stormwater discharge to the identified discharge point within the site. The NRCS as outlined in the ' USDA TR-55 Manual, was followed in predicting the peak rates of runoff and volumes. Hydraflow Hydrographs (version 2013) computer modeling software was used as application. Refer to Appendix C for design criteria implemented. ' The peak volumes of stormwater discharging to the wetlands were determined for the 2-, 10-, 25-, and 100-year storm events. Refer to Appendix A for the pre-developed conditions watershed computations. ' 3. Post Development Site Conditions ' The two homes proposed by Steven and Elizabeth will slightly increase the impervious coverage on the parcel. In order to control increases in stormwater volume due to increased impervious coverage, strategically placed rain gardens are proposed to detain ' stormwater flows. The raingarden's were sized to provide a total storage volume equal to the commutated increase in stormwater volume leaving the development for the 10-year storm. Our analysis demonstrated an increase of 1,686 cfs and 1,128 cfs for Lots 1 &2 ' 10-yr storm events respectively. The proposed rain garden for the Lots 1 and 2 were sized to provide at minimum 1,836 cfs and 1,487 cfs respectively. All proposed drainage watershed analysis computations can be found in Appendix B. Refer to the Proposed ' Conditions Drainage Area Map included in Appendix D for watershed delineations. 1 4. Analysis of Results ' Hydraulic conditions related to storm drainage were evaluated for both proposed and existing conditions using Hydraflow Hydrographs(version 2013) computer modeling ' software to determine peak discharge rates of runoff leaving the developed site. Based on modeling from existing conditions, one discharge location was identified as a point of interest for assessing downstream effects. The following table contains the data generated ' from the Hydraflow software: TABLE 1 Peak Volume of Stormwater Discharge Runoff Volume Storm Pre-developed Post-developed Net Change Watershed Event Condition Condition Rate of Runoff ' Area (Year) (ft) (ft) (ft) 2 2,291 728 -1,563 ' DP#1—To Wetlands 10 6,880 6,572 -308 (Conservation Area) 25 9,973 10,286 313 100 16,154 17,464 1,310 4. Water Ouality ' All stormwater discharging from the developed site will so in a sheet flow condition over the proposed lawn areas. We expect the overland conveyance of stormwater to help in the ' reduction of hydrocarbons and other contaminates that may be present on the proposed driveway surface. ' 5. Conclusion It is our opinion that the proposed stormwater management design as presented herein ' and on the accompanying site plans, will not pose any significant detrimental impacts to the environment surrounding the site. 2 1 APPENDIX A Watershed Computations (Pre-Development Conditions) ' 1 Watershed Model Schematic HydraflowHydrographs Extension for AutoCAD®Civil 3D®2013byAutodesk,Inc.v10 2 1 1 1 1 1 ' Project: 3485- Existing Conditions.gpw Tuesday, 11 /17/2015 ' 2 Hydrograph Return Period Regg y ow Hydrographs Extension for AutoCAD@ Civil 3138 2013 by Autodesk,Inc.00 Hyd.
